For those who have been involved in a situation such as this in the past/present or even just asking your opinion:
If a 1:1 student has a private duty nurse coming in with them daily, should the building nurse be involved with the case (other than being aware/being available for an emergency) such as contacting doctors for orders, protocols, training school staff, etc?

When I did private duty we'd make the building nurses aware of changes in the student's condition or major treatment plan changes but they did not have any involvement in meds or feedings given during school. The nurse really only kept watch over the student during bathroom breaks.

That help me, thank you!

when I had a student with a 1:1, I really only got involved when there was a medical emergency (student has terrible bouts of status epilepticus, among other issues) and even then, i'd only really hand until ems got there.

I was only involved if there was a medical emergency or if for whatever reason the 1:1 nurse didn't show up. The few instances I have had 1:1 nurses on my campus have been great - they were really good about keeping me up to date on any changes - more so than the parent was.
I always let them know I am available for support and I try to make them feel welcome in my office and include them in our staff potlucks, food treats etc.
