President Biden thread

Published

Wow.  No one has started such a thread yet?

After promising that most K-8 students would be in schools in the first 100 days,  apparently Joe is afraid to lead on this and has drastically scaled back that goal.

Instead, we're shooting for about half to go to school at least one day a week,  by the end of April.

I didn't say he broke the law.  I said the Biden family made millions of Joe's name and influence.

I don't think this can be denied.  It's one of the benefits of being in politics.  Look at the Obamas and the millions they are raking in.  No doubt their children will see some benefit of having his last name and influence.  Look at senators who come from nothing and retire with millions.  It pays to be a politician at high levels and it pays to be related to them.

Lots of people make lots of money because of their family name. We live in a society that fosters that.  Why do you keep mentioning it specific to the Biden's if not to imply something illegal or shady?

I'd rather neither old man. However there's 2 choices. I cannot fathom putting a senior in cognitive decline in the position of the POTUS.  It's cruel to Biden and irresponsible for the country.

But you can fathom putting a mentally ill narcissistic sociopath in the position after he mismanaged a pandemic and tried to overturn election results.  And then you make a statement about irresponsibility.

Fiction writers couldn't have imagined how ridiculous our downfall was going to be.  Well, maybe the writers of Idiocracy had the right idea.

What do we have to say about this jury and judge?

A panel of 12 Delaware jurors reached a guilty verdict after about three hours of deliberations based on testimony + evidence presented in court thusly judged by a jury of Delaware citizens who followed the law and jury instructions given to them.

"President Joe Biden's aggressive climate regulations targeting fossil-fuel-fired power plants will create widespread electric grid instability and lead to mass blackouts impacting millions of Americans, according to a recent study commissioned by North Dakota's state government."

Incompetent wokeness

"In 2021, the Biden administration pledged it would build 500,000 electric vehicle charging stations by 2030. So far, it's built seven."

....

"But internal memos from the Department of Transportation obtained by the Washington Free Beacon, as well as interviews with those who are responsible for overseeing the implementation of the electric vehicle charging station project, say the delay is in large part a result of the White House's diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives.

"These requirements are screwing everything up," said one senior Department of Transportation staffer who spoke on the condition of anonymity. "It's all a mess."

I've known of the importance of electrical grid stability as my father and his brother worked for Philadelphia Electric for 35+years and as PECO/Exelon stockholder.  As one of the major US players in the energy industry, they've been on the forefront of having diverse power sources to withstand weather events, power fluctuations and demands, closing and divesting of coal fired plants over the past 20 years --along with stable energy pricing.  With most aboveground  electric transmission lines past 75 years, they routinely trim trees along power lines, preventing transmission fires like Hawaii experienced.

It's important feature that not all energy companies have followed:

2021: Texas Legislature approves bills to require power plants to "weatherize," among other measures to overhaul electric grid   freezing Winter temps with citizen deaths

2023: Why the Texas Power Grid Is Facing Another Crisis heat waves and soaring power bills, citizen deaths

The spirit of defiance of the Lone Star State extends to its power grid as well. The Electric Reliability Council of Texas, or Ercot as the grid operator is known, serves about 90% of the state's electricity needs and has very few high-voltage transmission lines connecting to nearby grids. It's a deliberate move to avoid federal oversight of the power market. That means Texas has to be mainly self-reliant and cannot depend on neighbors during extreme conditions.

Illinois plans to go carbon-free by 2050  decreasing carbon footprint.

US Gov: How Are We Making the Grid More Resilient and Reliable for Everyone?

Withstanding and quickly recovering from extreme weather events must be a critical function of today's grid

In December 2022, the U.S. power sector braced for the impact of subzero freezes across the nation as Winter storm Elliott caused plummeting temperatures, in some places as low as -40º F. This followed a Summer and fall where wildfires, heat waves, and hurricanes had families and communities across the U.S. desperately trying to respond to catastrophic impacts on their electric infrastructure. As extreme weather caused by climate change hits every state and territory across the country, we must have grid infrastructure that can withstand and quickly recovery quickly from 21st century threats, both natural and manmade, to keep the lights on for families and communities everywhere....

...In support of the Initiative, GDO's Grid Modernization Division is leading the development and execution of programs to deploy approximately $13 billion in funds from the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law (BIL) to finance grid modernization with a focus on improving flexibility, reliability, and resilience against the growing threats of extreme weather and climate change

2024 Pew Research   Electric Vehicle Charging Infrastructure in the U.S.

64% of Americans live within 2 miles of a public charging station, and those who live closest to chargers view EVs more positively

Quote

Several recent laws, including the 2021 Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act and the 2022 Inflation Reduction Act, have sought to encourage the development of electric vehicle infrastructure and increase the adoption of electric vehicles (EVs). And a Pew Research Center survey paired with an analysis of U.S. Department of Energy data finds that roughly six-in-ten Americans now live within 2 miles of a public charger. ...

The number of EV charging stations has more than doubled since 2020. In December 2020, the Department of Energy reported that there were nearly 29,000 public charging stations nationwide. By February 2024, that number had increased to more than 61,000 stations. Over 95% of the American public now lives in a county that has at least one public EV charging station.

2024: More fast, public EV charging is on the way — but Pa. is 'playing catch-up'

In October, the Keystone State announced 56 National Electric Vehicle Infrastructure (NEVI) program projects along Pennsylvania highway interchanges, including several along the Pennsylvania Turnpike. The goal, funded with $171.5 million through the federal Inflation Reduction Act signed in August 2022, is to have chargers every 50 miles along major highways.

Electric Vehicle Charging Station Locations -- surprised to see so many in my area listed, will look for them in my travels as will need I more vehicle in my lifetime.

Plug In Philly program received $1.47 million in federal funds from the U.S. Joint Office of Energy and Transportation. The pilot is a workforce development program developed to recruit and train 45 diverse Philadelphians for careers in electric vehicle supplies and equipment (EVSE).

Thanks President Biden

House Republicans conducted some political theater about this topic yesterday.  It was so embarrassing.

Moreover, building such replacement resources would come at a great cost to MISO and SPP
ratepayers. Replacing the retired coal, natural gas, and nuclear units in EPA's modeled MISO grid
with the new wind, solar, battery storage, and natural gas facilities would cost an additional $381.9
billion through 2055 compared to the current operating costs of the existing fleet.
In SPP, replacing the retired coal, natural gas, and nuclear units in EPA's modeled grid with the
new wind, solar, battery storage, and natural gas facilities would cost an additional $65.6 billion
compared to the costs of operating the existing generation fleet.

I wonder what the cost of ignoring climate change and doing nothing until forced will be?  I guess we'll find out.

I think we all ready are. Heat domes, coastal flooding, droughts. A quick search of news outlets shows some pretty grim conditions. I read where attendees of a presidential candidate were collapsing from the heat.

Yep. That candidate joked that he didn't care about the people only the votes.  He's a really funny guy.
