Wow. No one has started such a thread yet?
After promising that most K-8 students would be in schools in the first 100 days, apparently Joe is afraid to lead on this and has drastically scaled back that goal.
Instead, we're shooting for about half to go to school at least one day a week, by the end of April.

I've talked about it before but the generation that is raising school aged children were raised by parents (Gen X and Boomers) that gave them participation trophies, that shielded them from any kind of discomfort or painful emotion or failure.
They are also very sensitive to how others make their children feel. You don't mess with their kids.
If they can handle going through mass shooting drills, I imagine they can handle some other truths in our history.
New topic was in another thread but was automatically merged with this one:
Biden hits a new low. I had to laugh at the 3% approval rating from Republicans.

This is why I never indicate my race on anything. Applications on jobs programs etc. I will be chosen on my qualifications and skills not my skin color or especially here in Canada, my aboriginal ethnicity.

Trump was a bit ridiculous in his anti-woke sentiment, which at the time was anti-"politically correct". He made a big deal that thanks to him we can now say Merry Christmas even though Obama said it and tweeted it and freedom of speech allowed Americans to say Merry Christmas all the time. Put people tapped into that. They were tired of being politically correct and "politically correct" like "woke" now is a dirty word.
It's one thing to say we've call to far with "birthing person" but it's another say we can't say Merry Christmas.

Keeping silent is just decency and not "not trying to offend them and I'm going to kill them". When we teach people not to judge a person how they look then we can teach them equality and acceptance and meeting them where they are.
Chances are the person knows they are fat and knows the problems inherent. Obesity isn't something to be celebrated, but it's also someone that needs to be accepted so we as health professionals can meet people where they are. That person fat shamed might be just so proud of themselves for losing 10 pounds the last month. They are strong, they are in control. Also there is food inequities and racism in the availability of healthy food. Yes I said it.
I do understand the movement of people like singer Lizzo parading and celebrating her obese body and not wanting to offend her by keeping silent might cause her harm. You never know someone's struggle and the hurt you can cause.
As was pointed out growth is sometimes hard. I can see it's a struggle to keep a child's self esteem intact but we have to find a way to teach history anyway rather than gloss over it with the idea that happy people were brought over to work the farms in the South.
It's complicated.
I would never condone calling someone fat or anything degrading. I was mostly referring to loud radical minority making claims that being over weight is not unhealthy. Or some out right lies.
Someone struggling may find this disinformation a easier way to continue with what harms them. Instead of doing something else to improve their health.

I get it. The body positivity movement spearheaded by millenials with their "I'm fat and that's okay" is dangerous in that it undermines the seriousness of obesity.
Mostly people want to be met where they are in their struggles and not feel bad about themselves. It's equally harmful to hate yourself.

I agree! I know there are claims of some Dr.'s ignoring symptoms to attributing to weight. I'm not sure how accurate this is.
Honestly when I've had a patient of short stature and obese complaining knee joint pain I would think it's most likely due to the weight burden on the joint and that's most likely what's causing the symptom. Does that mean no further investigation? Yes and no?
Where as in the US where universal Healthcare does not exist, it may make more sense to try weight loss to alleviate joint pain before expensive MRI's and other diagnostics. Or even in Canada to reduce weight times for issues more urgent.
You are right, it's complicated.

When Trump was first elected, I was horrified! I could not believe it. (I did not use my voting staus/dual citizenship until 2020) .
The way he talked and acted was cringe and ridiculous. I think this of him still.
I would hear extravagant claims about racism, likening him to Hitler sexism etc etc. I did my own research and the more and more I found edited footage, deliberate misrepresentation of his words and the over the top constant disparaging of him, the more I looked to his past and policy.
I'm not an anomaly and the dems need to stop with their hypocrisy, obvious dual standards and vilification of everything ,even trees and roads, or there will be more people who change their minds like I did.
(Note: I never used my dual citizenship to vote until 2020. I had the understanding that I do not live in the US therfore I should not vote. However, for the 4 years he was in office, I saw things that I have never thought I ever would see. It became something I had to do because I could not sit idol by while I watch, imo a destruction of one of the most free countries in the world, in the name of "social justice " that I see as the beginning of a terrible social catastrophe for everyone, equally).

You seem very fixated that a few people have likened Trumpism to Nazism and are so unforgiving that's a big issue to you. That's okay you're allowed.
I have been around long enough to see some ugly elections and some rhetoric spewed back and forth. I don't like it but that's the way many elections have been in my lifetime. There were some real doozies in North Carolina when I was growing up in the Jessie Helms years.
Still, I never thought I would live to see the day when there was an insurrection in the White House and people freely walking about looking for the Vice President and who knows what else and killing a cop in the process.
I never thought I'd see the day when people were convinced that a loser won the election. Never thought I'd live to see the day that a President didn't accept the reality that he lost and continues to lead people on with that lie.
To me this is more indicative of the destruction of America.
I don't like a lot of what we've become but I've always believed in the Democratic process and have had to lick my wounds when losing most elections I've support. I also believe in the court system as messed up as it can be (the current debate about letting people out with low bails and racist sentencing is a valid concern), the right to protest and all things American.
I think for a long time we've been frayed at the edges but never have seen it like this.
I think one of the reasons we keep bringing up Trump is that he won't go away.
He's still saying he won the election. He says the border is a bigger problem than inflation because immigrants are stealing our jobs.
Inflation though is a big problem and won that if it doesn't calm down will be the undoing of Biden. Republicans are very good at harping on a topic. The "he's eating lobster, while you're struggling to put food on the table" is a good one because people won't stop to think that this was said by billionaire Jim Jordan of Ohio, whom obviously isn't struggling either.

Jim Jordon is not a rich man, I don't know why I put billionaire before his name. I believe his net worth is about $400,000 and for a man of his age that isn't considered much. However, I can still be confident that he isn't feeling any guilt about enjoying his Thanksgiving dinner and didn't struggle either.
I think that kind of stuff is a cheap shot. Like what does he want Biden to do? Not celebrate and feed the homeless instead? Biden as spent many Thanksgivings in Nantucket, it's a family tradition of his. He was in North Carolina serving and feeding and thanking the troops there. Nothing good enough and he's fair game so I don't blame them.
