Wow. No one has started such a thread yet?
After promising that most K-8 students would be in schools in the first 100 days, apparently Joe is afraid to lead on this and has drastically scaled back that goal.
Instead, we're shooting for about half to go to school at least one day a week, by the end of April.
As I said during the election, Buttigieg wasn't my choice because lack of experience on a national or even state scale. He was the mayor of a small town and I didn't feel was qualified. Certainly he's brilliant and I think because he's probably never experienced much failure in his life he thought he could be president. Either that or it was part of a plan to get some name recognition for future ambitions. I think being part of the cabinet is a good idea. I'd like to see him become a senator or congressman first before running for President again.
The Democrats certainly lack cohesiveness especially on a local and state level. Here in Florida the Democratic Party doesn't have good leadership and no outstanding person to take on important things like the governor or national senate.

Harry Truman wasn't qualified either, but historians are being kind to him.
Mayor Pete has experience comprable to Obama's short time as a senator. He knows military science. He's figuring right now as Secretary of Transportation how the wheels of government turn (forgive the bad pun:), he says what he means and means what he says and has the gift of leadership. What more would you want of a candidate?

I don't equate being a small town mayor with being a Senator in Washington. But Obama certainly didn't put much time in either.
He certainly has book smarts and common sense, doesn't get rattled easy and can speak coherently, and has no garbage. I'm not saying he doesn't have what it takes, but a leap from small town mayor to President was a bit much and I supported Sanders instead.

I can argue that experience in legislating is very helpful. But in this day and age, American politics isn't really about qualifications anymore. IMV
Trump was so far away from possessing the necessary qualifications for the presidency that it seems unbelievable, in retrospect, that he was elected. Had qualifications mattered Clinton would have won the election.
That's not really me in disagreement with your comment. Just my typical discussion that always filters back to the Trump phenomenon.

Buttigieg was mayor for 8 years and Obama was a US senator for 3 years. BUT before Buttigieg was mayor he served in Naval intelligence as well as in Afghanistan. He has an honors degree of Oxford in economics and politics. Obama served at a state senator before becomine US senator but I can't find that he had any job before that. PB will have served in WH for 4 years previous to being elected a president. He will be abundently qualified by the next election. Haven't we learned from Trump to avoid people who are blatently unqualified? THAT's why Trump keeps coming up. He became our nadir in leadership qualities.

It remains to be seen if the unlearned have learned anything. It's depressingly apparent that many people don't think MAJOR character flaws or ignorance are enough to disqualify people from office. Looks at New Jersey's new governor - a truck driver who has no idea what the first thing is he will do when he gets into office. And this is from a wealthy and highly educated state compared to most others.

I couldn't edit this quickly enough! Even worst than being governor, the sod is a senator:(

As I said in 2020 I didn't think mayor of a small city was qualifications for President compared to some of the other candidates, especially Sanders, however if you're talking 2024 after four years in the cabinet, sure I would consider that better qualified than he was in 2020 and I would certainly consider him. I would be highly surprised if a Democrat ran against Biden in 2024 however so it's a moot point.
Trump tapped into the anti-establishment sentiment and people thought his business leadership was a qualifier. They were wrong.

I never said Biden was incompetent (and I don't believe that) but I think he is too old and too unpopular to run again. Buttigieg was the guy I wanted to run against Trump. I'm not sure the Dems could put First Husband into the WH. I hope we would be decent and smart enough to get it done but wouldn't bet much on it.
