Preparing for CPNE, overwhelmed!

Published

OK, read thru once the CPNE study guide, and got to say I feel completely overwhelmed. I am registered for a workshop but I don't even feel like I can review enough to get ready for the worshop,.

Step one, breathe, haha.

Any advice on breaking this down to more manageable steps? It does not seem like the skills are extreme, but so many seeminly ways to go wrong! I don't have IV skills, so this part I need alot of review on. Please share how you studied, thanks!!

i feel your pain and anxiety!!! i'm in the same boat. i printed out the study guide and im going to lynn's workshop next month. but, its all so overwhelming. im very unsure about the iv portion. i dont have any iv exposure since school.

also, i'm curious about something else.... what do you do if you are assigned a task that you have never done before? i read yesterday on another forum of a student having to use a doppler. i've never had training on that. does anyone know what the right way to handle that would be?

The Clinical Examiner (CE) can and will orient you to all unfamiliar equipment during your PCSs.

Read that study guide front to back -- seriously, EVERY PAGE, EVERY WORD. No kidding. There is so much information in there, so many of your questions will be answered. (K3104, I know you've done that already. :))

The CPNE study guide is overwhelming at first but once you start to break it down it does gets easier and like LunahRN says, read every word!!! The workshop will help you no matter how you look at it. It really helped me to have a mock room in my home. The careplans are big and you really need to have them under your belt rather then starting an IV. The CEs will be your best friend! You will have a lot of questions as you study so be sure to have your support system like Excelsior online groups. Good luck!!!

thanks guys! the more i read the study guide the more i'm realizing that it is logical and does make sense the way they want it done. it just is going to be a matter of memorizing and practicing!

i'm planning on doing a lot of studying and practicing before lynn's workshop next month so that i can get the most out of it. and i ordered the flashcards and audio cd from excelsior.

any other tools recommended?

thanks again!

Take the study guide and pull out all of the checkoff sheets in the back-these are what the CE's will be using to grade you.

Memorize the steps- no more and no less.

Break it down this way and you won't fail.

I broke it down into small, manageable sections. Otherwise its too complicated.
