Preparation for Nursing School

I plan on starting nursing school next year, does anybody know of anything I can do to best prepare myself? Anything I should buy in preparation?

How is your maths?

If you struggle with it, I reccomend the book "Maths and Meds for nurses" you should be able to find it on amazon. It starts with the basic maths and shows how it ties with what nurses need to know.

Also, I would recommend finding out what referencing system your school of nursing uses and study up on that. I used APA referencing for both my degrees however it may be different in Australia. It is like learning a second language however its essential to know.

Also good to start having a look through your anatomy and physiology

Thank you! I do have a medication maths book which this has just reminded me I have. :-)

Yes we use APA in Australia as well, I always use the computer to do the referencing itself by entering the details into Microsoft word!

Its actually really good practice to learn how to do it manually. If your computer progam packs a nana, you are stuffed

Yeah, I agree with you on that one! I find is so confusing though, I'm sure I'll learn one day soon!

I have always been a fan of utilizing the khan academy videos. I know that they have recently added a section for nursing students so that may help you.

In the program I am in, we use a "test strategies" book and it is great! Shows you how to execute specific types of questions you will see on these tests && also includes questions of different areas such as psych, fundamentals, medsurg etc
