Prelicensure online nursing programs in NYC?

Published

Hello all,

I posted a similar question over on the distance learning page. I'm wondering if there are any online prelicensure nursing programs in the NYC area? One where most classes could be taken online and then clinicals are done at an area hospital or other facility. Does anyone know?

I'm currently pregnant with my second child and I'm trying to make nursing school a possibility for myself and my family. Thanks in advance!

I don't think there are any nursing programs/schools anywhere for prelicensure, meaning you are not yet a nurse (not an LPN, Not an RN) online. You might find LPN to RN programs or RN to BSN programs online but for your first nursing license either LPN or RN they do not exist. You can do a search as others have asked but I do not think they exist in the USA. Clinical are arranged by each school in an agreement with facilities (hospital, nursing homes, etc). As a beginner student, basic skills are taught in both classroom & skills labs, most school use simulation mannequins and students are tested on skills in the lab prior to or in conjunction with clinical in a facility with actual patients, with supervision by clinical instructor from your school.

Western Governor's University may be one but if you search the threads you will get better feedback and it may not be available in your area.

Hi there,

Thank you for the reply. It seems you are correct -- I've been doing some research and coming up empty. I looked into WGU and unfortunately, it's not available in my area. What I think I may try is doing my prerequisites online and then apply to a traditional campus setting nursing program from there.
