Pregnancy, Graduation, New Job

Published

Hi all!

I am going into my third semester of nursing school and will (hopefully) graduate in May 2020!

My husband and I have put off having children while I'm in school, and we are trying to decide the best time to go for it!

We would like to start trying in May because I don't want to have my first trimester while in school but I don't know how to make it work with a new job...

Thoughts?

Thank you in advance!

Frankly for your first year of nursing it is your benefit to get a residency. I don'r recommend trying to get pregnant until after securing your first job and getting past your probation period. So hopefully you can get a job right away. Wait a few months and then start trying.

You'll need to be employed full-time for 1 year in order to qualify for FMLA - keep that in mind in planning out timing, otherwise you may not be able to take much leave.

I was pregnant during my last year of nursing school. Our last day of class was a Thursday, my daughter was born the following Tuesday, and I went to my pinning ceremony that Friday, the day after I was DC'd from the hospital. I took NCLEX after my maternity leave and started working as an RN at the same facility I had been working at as a CNA. This worked out well for me, but if I would have had any pregnancy complications it probably would have disrupted my schooling.
