What to buy and how to prepare for Nursing School

Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

Published

Hi everyone!!!

I recently got accepted into my #1 BSN program and I'm really excited, but also super nervous.

I was wondering what you guys think I should prepare for PRIOR to entering the nursing program this August.

Also, what should I buy? Do I need a laptop? I have a desktop. I've seen people who I follow use tablets, and it looks really helpful. They have pictures (such as xrays) on their tablet and label it using a drawing option or app.

So, laptop or tablet? Or do I need either?

What else should I buy? Stethoscope? Lab coat?

Any tips on preparing for nursing school before actually starting will definitely help me out and calm my nerves!!

What information should I brush up on besides A&P?

Just trying to prepare as much as possible so I can feel ready.

Thanks so much!!

Congratulations! I remember that feeling!

I have a MacBook, because we had to buy them through the program. I really like it though - small and easy to use. The AirDrop feature has come in very handy as well.

You won't need a lab coat, unless your school requires one. I'm pretty much always in scrubs (which isn't nearly as fun as I thought it would be).

There are several threads floating around about supplies, so I won't go into them here.

I recommend you rest, and spend time with friends and family and just enjoy your summer. There's so much learning to come and excitement in your future!

I start my adn nursing program this summer, I would hold off on buying certain things until you have an orientation. During orientation, we was given a list of things to complete and buy. So for example, our uniforms, name tags had to be brought from a particular company. I have started dosage calculations and learning meds classifications independently because I know its a big part of my first class, fundamental nursing. There is a post floating around on the site from a pharmacist, you can download the pdf, its been sooooo helpful. I have dosage calculations down packed already!....... Congratulations!

I find it kind of weird/amazing that they required you to buy a MacBook. I'm looking at the Samsung Galaxy S3, but wanted to get opinions before I make a purchase.

That makes sense, I just want to try to get ahead of the game.. :)

Also, I think I have that guy's PDF bookmarked! As soon as this semester is over I'm going to look over it and brush up on A&P... thanks a lot!
