West coast university HELP

Nursing Students School Programs

Published

I'm currently in my 1st term at west coast university Ontario campus. I'm taking an anatomy class that is blended, meaning we pretty much barely have 2 hours of in class lecture per week then we're on our own to learn the rest of the material needed for that week. Also our lab and lectures never add up. I've taken a&p before & never had to learn half of this stuff they want to cram in a 10 week course. Apparently blended classes are a new thing for this school. Has anyone attended WCU and had a blended science course? I honestly feel like they are setting people up for failure! Also I'm started to second guess myself for choosing this school. After talking with MULTIPLE different people that should be able to help students with questions, not one person knew what they were taking about except the dean. The " for profit" really shows with this school, they can care less about the academic success of students....ADVICE NEEDED!

West coast? RUN!!

They don't care about you, it's all about the money. You can get a real education for a lot less at a community college.

Save yourself the heartache and a future if crushing debt.

Also if you think about it, will it take you that much longer to graduate from a community college if you leave WCU.

I went there foolishly but I left after three weeks because I thought, "I just want to get in somewhere.." I would have graduated sometime in 2017 if I had stayed in WCU. I went to a CC and graduated June 2018. Yes, it may have set me back a year..big deal! I graduated debt free from my CC.

Please reconsider staying at your school.

I went to a community college but it was taking too long for me to finish & I was getting to the point where I just was over it. I wish I would have known how little west coast cares about their students before signing up.

The thing is, you're not even in the core nursing program so what's the point of paying thousands of dollars to take prerequisites?

What's holding you back from finishing quickly at a CC?

I have all my pre reqs done except 3 sciences classes. I wanted to go to west coast just to get a move in things since I've Been classes at the cc for YEARS. If I leave west coast I don't think I could even go back once I did those science classes. Elsewhere it's not a guarantee of getting into the nursing program there it is. My mind is telling me to leave this school ASAP. I'll be stuck with paying back a loan I'm not even using. Ugh I wish I woulda known this school is so full of ****!

Hi at Peachgirl............ I would like to know if you are still at West Coast University. Like you, I need to start sooner rather than later. Please let me know how you are doing or if you have left WCU.

Hello!

I am still here. If you do not have all of your pre reqs done prior to attending this school, I would strongly discourage you from attending.

I have all pre requisites and they were approved by WCU. I was hoping to hear from Pasadena City College because I was notified I was an alternate in case someone chosen declined their spot but unfortunately that did not happen. I need to start my nursing journey now and that is why I need to start here at WCU. I'm currently scheduled to take the classes that can only be taken there at WCU like Cap and FYS so my schedule states I should start my core nursing classes in January 2019. My co-workers brother just graduated from WCU and she states he was able to work full time and attend the nursing program. Can you tell me when you are supposed to graduate? Have a lot of students in your cohort dropped? Are you doing clinicals yet?

That's good then you should do fine. I work with a lot of nursing that attended WCU & everyone has great things to say about the nursing program. I have a coworker that just started her nursing core & she said it's hard & very fast.im scheduled to start in June for my nursing classes.

Is it too late to apply for CCs to begin in January of 2019 since you won't start core nursing in WCU until January 2019?

No Its not to late. I could re-apply but there is no guarantee that I will get chosen.

You're right about that.

The reason I'm trying to discourage you from going to WCU is that it costs about $11,000/term (10 weeks). Can you cope with a lot of information in ten weeks? If you fail a term, you don't have the option of transferring your credits.

PCC has a selection criteria. Is there a possibility you can meet some requirements before the application which opens in October. For example you get 2 points for having your CNA, HHA or EMT. You get 25 points for a TEAS score of 85 -100. Can you possibly get these ready before the application opens up? (If you intend to get a CNA license, look for a place that offers the class for no more than 5 weeks. You get health care experience and earn some money)
