Hello fellow pre-nursing students,

I was wondering if any of you know what happens if someone is on the wait list for University of Illinois at Chicago (UIC). Would I be just a sitting duck until I get accepted? I currently attend a different four year university and so my dilemma is whether I should wait until I get accepted or if I should just get my bachelors in a different degree and just go to an accelerated nursing program after I graduate. If I wait that means I will most likely have to take a year off from school or however long it takes to be accepted and OFF the wait list! :crying2: What have your experiences been? I appreciate all the replies I can get. Thanks for listening :)

Hello Wildorchid!

First, how far along are you at the other university towards your degree and are you currently working towards a BSN there?

I am also attending another university, and while working towards my pre-reqs for the BSN here, (at St. Xavier University) I realized that I could graduate with a BA in another field. This is indeed what I decided to do and will graduate this May. However, since I have completed all my pre-reqs for nursing I decided to look into transferring to UIC also, (turns out the have a graduate entry program for non-nursing majors who have completed the pre-reqs).

This is the route I am choosing. If you are close enough to completing your degree, keep on going and complete it, (in my opinion) and keep working on the nursing pre-reqs. I believe that plenty of people with BAs in other majors still do work towards a regular BSN too, (that is an option.)

Good luck,

Gen

Hi Gen,

I will be a Junior after this semester with a little bit more than 60 hours. I just have to complete one more class for the nursing pre-req which I was going to do this summer. I already declared a different major just as a back up just in case I didn't get accepted for the BSN program at UIC. I'm still waiting for my letter, but I believe they will tell me I am on a waiting list. I'm still not sure what I'm gonna do....

Uhm, I realize that this post is 4 years later.

But, does anyone have any updates about waitlists for UIC nursing? What are the chances of getting in? And how long the waitlists are?

Any help would be much appreciated! Thanks

I was wondering the same thing. I just found out last week that I am on the wait list. It sucks!

I am considering applying to UIC's BSN program as well, but for fall of 2010. If you don't mind me asking, what type of grades do you have if you were wait listed? I'm trying to assess my application to see how competitive I will be compared to other apps when I apply.

I have a 4.0 science GPA. My cumulative GPA was a bit lower at 3.4 because most of my gen-ed classes were taken over 10 years ago when I was not as serious of a student. I think the main reason I didn't make it in is because I don't have much in the way of experience. All my volunteer work was done in high school which was over 15 years ago. Since then I have been too busy caring for my four kids to do much in the way of volunteering. I think my essays and recommendation letters were pretty good. I think they do stress previous experience a lot though.

Is there anyone who have been accepted for BSN program for fall 2009 at UIC

I got an email on april 14, where i have been asked to fill an enrollment confirmation form and send $100 tution deposit. I am very happy but I don't know what I should do next.........I mean to register for the classes and others

I have been waitlisted, can someone explain the process to me?

I have also been waitlisted. I am so devastated, as UIC was by far my first choice of schools. Is there anybody at UIC now who was put on the wait list last year and can give us some insight into how long it took, what your stats were, etc?

I did get accepted into Truman's ADN program, but I really wanted to go for the BSN. Should I just forget about UIC and plan on attending Truman...

There's still a glimmer of hope though, I'm holding out for a decision from NIU next week, but would have to move out of Chicago to go there.

I really really wanted to go to UIC.

I was waitlisted last yr as you can see from my previous posts and I did get accepted, but they did not call me until Aug.15 and classes started Aug 23. It was a crazy week, but they got me oriented & registered on time and now I am almost done with my first yr. They do take people off the waitlist, don't give up hope. I had a pretty good gpa and good essays. I think I fell short with past volunteer/hospital experience and that is something they look for. If you have the luxury to wait out the summer, do it. Not everyone who is accepted will end up going and up until the week before classes, they will accept people off the waitlist. For some people who apply UIC is not their first choice and they might get into their first choice and turn down UIC so keep hoping. It is worth it. UIC's College of Nursing is incredible! Good luck!

Hey Hanna,

I am also waitlisted at UIC and accepted at Truman. Good luck, I am still hoping for UIC, that was my first choice, I was hoping actually to be accepted there with no problems, however, now I am getting used to the idea of going to Truman.
