Taking 20 credits next semester.

Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

Is this possible? Is it doable, I also have clincals, too. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

I have already been accepted to nursing school, and they are telling me that this is the order that I have to take my classes.

That's odd. What is your school's requirement for acceptance into the nursing program? Like I said previously those seem like pre or co reqs. I'm not sure why your school would recommend you taking so many classes.

I'm going to be taking 16 credits next semester, but two of my classes will be online. I'm not sure how you're school is, but please be careful and conscientious of time constraint!

I took 18 one semester and handled it with no problem. Now, I'm taking 13, with 10 of them being nursing and it's hard!!!!! Nursing school is different than prereqs. Really different!

I'm a seasoned college student, and I say that it really depends on the courses. I'm taking thirteen credit hours in Nursing school (Junior nursing student) and one class is worth seven credits. HOWEVER, that seven credit hour class includes a 3 hour and 15 minute lecture AND a 12 hour clinical. That isn't even taking into that I have two three-credit hour online classes AND I'm working two jobs.

But I have taking fifteen, sixteen hours (non-nursing courses) and it was a breeze. So, it really depends.

I was a premed major in college and took 18 most semesters - I can not imagine taking any more than that!! Every major at my school only took 15 except for us science kids, I wouldn't recommend pushing it with 20 credits.

Is it doable? Sure. You have to balance out that workload with other things though. Namely, you'll lose a lot of what would normally be considered "free time" as you'll spend a lot of time studying. One way you may be able to lessen the load somewhat would be to take a few of those courses over a Summer Term, if it's allowed. The heaviest load I've ever had was 18 Semester units. Sure, it was doable, but I had little free time, and I didn't have to work and clinical time was relatively easy because that particular program expected us to do internship hours in the afternoon. I probably could have squeezed in another 3 unit course, but I'd have had a harder time getting through school.

Now I have to balance full time work with full time school that includes a clinical component with family needs. Trust me, that isn't easy... but my previous education is definitely proving helpful in making my studies easier.
