So mad

Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

Published

Sorry to vent but I am so mad. I got put on an alternate list for the nursing program because they filled all the spots with residents first. I worked hard the last three years to finish all the pre reqs while working full time and having a wonderful supporting wife and two awesome lil boys 2 and 5. But now my only option is to go on the waiting list at another school here in orlando which is a year long, I am not getting any younger.... GRRRRRRR:angryfire

Hi MAN,

I am so sorry to hear about your dilemma. I wish I could offer advice, but fortunately, at my CC, they do take students based on points and the NET. We have people who live 2 hours away getting accepted because they had more points than in district folks. Just keep your chin up, keep working hard, and if it is meant to be, you WILL get in!!

Ok, if there were 96 slots and 112 applicants...your chances are getting in are EXCELLENT.

People apply to more than one school, can't come up with the money, fail a required course that causes their GPA to drop, women get pregnant, a TON of reasons....some don't even accept.

EXACTLY!! There are several in my class who got in at the last minute, too...that I know of...heaven knows how many they whittled through to get our roster full last semester, but I have always heard that a great number of folks end up not enrolling for the reasons listed above.

I think with those kinds of numbers, your chances are pretty good. I'd start lining all your ducks up just in case..... ;)

By the way, you mention you're not getting any younger -- I'm 51 and in my second semester of an ADN program. Other than your probably feeling like you need to get in and out to help provide for that family of yours, you DO have time, lol!!

Make sure you come back here and let us know how it works out!!

And if you don't get accepted, you will most definately be accepted next semester (especially considering there were only 112 applicants for the 90 or so spots).

When I applied to my program last October to enter for Spring '07, I was denied, and when I inquired as to how many students applied for the 50 available spots, I was told it was somewhere around 250. She said I was #20 on the waiting list, and they ended up getting to #17 due to 17 of the accepted students either not accepting their positions, failing classes, or not getting financial aid in time. Because I was not accepted, I didn't get too upset but rather decided to take a few "fun" classes this semester and start in Summer '07.

And on a side note -- I know of a guy who was much further down on the waiting list then me; however, he was actually bumped up and accepted because he is in the military and is under the GI Bill, and he said he was going to lose his GI Bill if he was not accepted. That kind of made me angry!

hmmmm maybe I shoud use that one, I am using my GI Bill as well. But I dont think that would really matter in my case. This School doesnt do a spring semester, they only start in the Fall. So I hope a few drop out and I am in..woohoooo Lets pray....

I am on the alternate list at Lake sumter. They allow you to apply for the program if you are in your last semester of pre reqs. Valencia will not allow you to apply until you finish ALL pre reqs. I just finished the last one on Thursday so I will apply with them this week. But Valencia accepts all applicants that have pre reqs and NET done, but the down side it is a long wait.

Boy a year isn't a long wait in regards to nursing school at all, the waitlist where I am at is about 3 years. My school does not choose residents or even current students its open to the highest GPA period, needless to say the minimum to get in is pretty much a 4.0 only a few spots every semester, however they do choose 2 lotter spots in the fall and 4 in the spring.

Some CC here will choose students over transfers I feel that is fair, but I would be miffed if they never took non residents at all, many schoolse have different requirements its nice to have the option of choosing the ones that fit your needs.

Just an update, I talked with the recruiter today and she said I was 5 down on the list. She said my chances are excellent in getting in. She said the same things that you all have shared with me. She said pregnant womem, failing pre reqs and people applying to different schools and not accepting the admission here. So with all said I am not mad anymore....lol...I always say " with GOD all things are possible".

I am SOOOOOOO glad to hear this!

Be waiting on that letter! They will probably send them out after Spring grades post.
