PLEASE HELP i cant get into nursing school

Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

Published

Okay so I have been going to community college for about 5 years taking and retaking classes to try to increase my gpa. I had a 2.8 but I transferred to another school and now have a 3.0. Ive also taken the TEAS and got a 73%. Is that good? I have been applying to RN programs in my area but as of yet no luck. I am so discouraged I dont know what to do with myself. I have to admit I have struggled through school but mainly because of my personal situation. My home life really has not been condusive to learning but I have recently moved out and can now focus and I am doing much better. I just dont know how to fix things without having to start over (if there is such a thing). I live in the Philadelphia area and would really appreciate it if someone out there could lend some advise as to what to do and/or what schools I should apply to. Any advise would be greatly appreciated.

I actually went today and attended a seminar for LPN classes starting this fall and the proctor (who is also one of the clinical instructors) said Id be great and looks forward to receiving all of my admissions materials (which I just sent our today but they are not actually do till May 15th, trying to get an early start lol). The reason why I feel Id be a great nurse is not simply because I am a people person who likes helping others (which I am), its also because I have been working in a Pediatric Facility as a Rehab Tech for the past 3 years. I work side by side with nurses and nurse practitioners who often look to me for help with their patients when they are to busy to do so. I volunteered first and then worked my way up. Also, I know getting a B in my classes is not that significant in comparison but when retaken all at the same time (Micro, A&P 1 and 2, Chem 1 and Organic) meaning in the same semester (yes I retook all 5 simultaneously, A&P 2 and Micro were only taken once) I think my B is pretty awesome. I doubt any of that was taken into consideration though, but anyways I am in no way EVER giving up. I do not suffer from any delusions, I know what I am supposed to be and that is in fact a Nurse and I will spend as long as it takes working my way up. Im only 22 so in my opinion I have plenty of time to reach my goal of becoming a Nurse Practitioner. Thanks for all your support guys!!

At first, I was going to agree with some of the others that maybe you should look at doing something else with your life, just due to how competitive nursing is right now.

BUT..... after reading this post, I think you are fully aware of where you sit, what you need to do, and what you want for your future! I hope you can get in to the LPN program. It's a great idea to go for that first, then evaluate what you need to do next.

Good luck!

thanks so much. i really needed to hear that :) yea i’m more motivated than ever to do whatever it takes. i’m super excited to get started and have even been looking at different types of jobs i could get after i earn my lpn because i honestly don’t want to work in a nursing home. i know that’s typical and it’s not like i’m going to starve lol ill do what i have to but really i’d rather not work there. i’m looking into psychiatric facilities, rehab centers and corrections facilities in my area (philly) and it seems they do hire lpns. so yea i am deff going to take that route because honestly (this probably sounds bad but...) i would rather work in a prison then a nursing home any day.

God will help you

Thanks I try to speak life and not death and Gods word says so. Never to hurt but to encourage. Same to you

Yes yes agreed for the OP, favor is tons higher than wordly statistics.

To the OP keep going and you'll get there. It just may not be in the same process as others. We all have different walks...some will get there a little more easily and for others not so much. Keep the support system of people you work with in the field, your instructors and the advisors.

I have struggled in some of my pre req classes. I only made C's in my anatomy's (and I have to re-take anatomy 1). I knew my grades were not high enough to get into the RN program so I applied to the LPN program. My school doesn't require the teas for the LPN program. I got in the LPN program and graduated last year and this semester I got into the LPN to RN program. I will graduate as a RN this December. I got in the RN program quickly because of having my LPN degree. I go to a tech school in South Carolina. Just don't give up if this is something you want to do, I didn't and I'm so glad I didn't. I had a professor tell me that I would never get into nursing school with my grades because I was weak in science. It is competitive and some schools are harder to get into then others but there are schools that will accept you.

I like your ambition and tenacity! I hope you will continue to pursue your dream. I see you are willing to do what it takes and I believe you will make it if you keep believing in yourself and what you are meant to do. I also came from a difficult family background and had a shaky start in college due to my situation. That was many years ago. I finally broke free and along the way I became an A student, got my BA and fulfilled many of my dreams that I thought I'd never get the chance to do. I have a happy life and a great husband and child and I am now starting nursing school in a couple of months. —Point being, your route may not be a straight line, but that doesn't mean you can't get there. Go for it!

I've seen so many advertisements for private tech colleges that offer degrees in nursing. I know for sure that some take an extremely low gpa, but you have to pay the $$! You might want to look into some of these programs and take out loans. Not an ideal situation but it will get you where you want to go. Community colleges are way too competitive for your GPA, you need to find schools that don't require a 3.5 or above. Otherwise, you are wasting your time retaking classes and still not getting into a program. Bite the bullet and find a for-profit school that will accept your low grades.

I am in a similar boat, I decided to do the LPN program and then if I can bridge later.

I agree with what everyone has said .Do not give up I have a friend who has been a nurse for ,34 years and missed the hesi test by one point each time. This is sad they need to look at the whole picture I was just accepted to the SGSC I was exstatic. My friend however was devastated. my GPA was above 3.5 and yes I took hesi twice missed on the math I studied my butt off and I made it.

Retake the classes you scored a C in because my college says you can only have one c in one science A&P I scored A s so do not give up My friend is going to retake the hesi. Find out what your college requires btw you can find a KAPLAN college they do online and ground . apply to all the colleges, but do not let too much time go bye because after five years you have to retake all that . Go ahead and get you associates in pre nursing that way you will have a degree and they cannot not take that away.:) take some easy classes to get an A to bring up GPA as well. that will help no you do not a new career direction.

Don't let anyone to tell u to quit! If that's ur dream keep going I come from a college & my GPA was a 2.2 so I transfer & my GPA didn't follow I now hold a 3.7 GPA at my new school and going for a 4.0 the school I'm applying for don't do an entrance exam by god grace I hope to get in the program in January! So find schools that transfer ur credit & don't take ur gpa with you keep going & good luck

keep trying to boost your gpa and write about your obstacles in your application essay :)

hi [COLOR=#003366]Palexander3512, im in the same boat; I've been taking test like teas for the RN program and no luck. now I transfer to another where I have to take the hesi, im going to take that this Saturday. hope I pass. well I toke every type of test to get into a nursing program like the LPN been taking that most, what I believe sometime we think that certain field is for us and its not. have you look around and see what you do more in your life which could be a career field for you? like me I love nursing but I do more paper work than nursing stuff. so my husband and my family said that business is my field. so I plan if I fail this hesi test Saturday im going to do criminal justice to be a immigration officer.
