I want to become a nurse but my gpa is low

Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

I want to be a nurse. My GPA is 2.40ish. I failed anatomy and retaking it now. I'll probably get a C. I took physio and got a C. Im in micro but I'm not going to pass. What are my options? Are my dreams of a nurse over?

My opinion is drop micro and pass anatomy with a C.

Re-access your studying. Go to YouTube and do search on "how to take lecture notes". Watch the video from the guy from long beach city college. Then watch all of his videos.

Find a school with min 2.5 gpa. If not stay at current school.

By getting a c in anatomy you lost bonus points available from an A. Take more classes with bonus points to make up difference of not getting an A in anatomy.

This is just suggestion. School counselor can give better advice.

Most nursing program won't accept if you have failed 2 or more pre reqs so you should try to drop micro if yiu think you are going to fail or beg for extra credit. As far as peiple telling you to give up your dream don't listen. After 5 years some schools don't even count those pre reqs anymore. So by retaking thise classes and achieving a higher grade you May still be able to make it in to a nursing program. Ap is hard. Micro is hard but you can do it. Study study study. I wish you the best and tune out those who try to crush your dreams.

Where there is a will, there is a way. If this is truly your dream then get after it. Do not let time, people or any obstacle convince you that is not possible. God bless.

I thought nursing school was extremely hard compared to the science prereqs. However, someone above said that she felt the prereqs were harder than nursing program. The prereqs are, I feel, 100% memorization, while nursing program requires a high percentage of critical thinking. Maybe it is possible that you're one of those who do better with critical thinking than straight up memorization of facts (I got straight A's in prereqs....but I will not lie: I struggled in nursing school. I think I received a total of 1 or 2 A's on exams my entire program [i did pass nclex on first try, thank God]). Nursing program is very competitive and it would be ashamed if you did turn out to be a good critical thinker but your difficulties with the prereqs keeps you from being accepted.......I wish you luck!

Question:

are you taking these courses as a pre-req before applying? have you considered looking at programs that don't require these classes?

and like an associates degree? and then moving on up, from there?

OR are you taking these courses in a nursing program? in that case, not all programs have the same requirements, some of them are mostly and generally the same, but there is some variation.

from what i understand, i assume as pre-reqs, and i would recommend looking at community colleges, where you can get your ADN or LPN, and then do continuing education and advance that way. it might be a easier work load, and you would be able to take your time and get more experience that will help you along.

also, what are your current study habits? A/P is tough and so is Micro. Sometimes even taking it another college or with a different teacher can help, cause teaching styles are different, but you still have to put in the time and effort.

Don't give up. It's going to be a tough journey, and it only will get tougher. But you will learn to manage and get through it. Best of luck!
