I can't wait because . . .

Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

Published

Okay, yes, I'm a big nerd, but I think this might be fun. Those of us just waiting to leave at this point: tell why you can't wait for school to start!

I go first: I can't wait for nursing because at least I'll be taking care of people with a legitimate excuse for being unable to wipe their own @$$!!!

I work in a law firm, btw. And it's not even 9:00 yet . . . :stone

Specializes in NICU.

I can't wait because being a nurse is something I've always wanted to do. People say I look like a nurse  and when they ask if I am one I will finally be able to say "YES". Besides, now that I'm getting ready to go into NS, people are already asking me medical questions  and I want to be able to answer them :chuckle.

Specializes in Med/Surg, Dialysis.

I can't wait to learn all about diseases, treatments, and procedures!

Most all TO WORK WITH PEOPLE AND NOT SIT IN FRONT OF A COMPUTER ALLLLLLLL DAY!!!!! IS IT TIME FOR LUNCH, IS IT 430 YET??? I WISH MY WHOLE DAY AWAY!!! :chuckle

I know I am a nerd, the day I got my acceptance I went right to the bookstore for a medical dictionary!! And I already have my steth picked out!!!

Good Luck everyone!!!!~~~~~

Can't wait to start this fall!!!!!!

Specializes in Critical Care.

I can't wait because I'll finally be learning how to help people manage their health! I loved A/P and I'm SO looking forward to really working with people and helping them feel better and heal!

I am SO over running endless radioactive enzyme assays and torturing mice! (Lots of respect and admiration for people in biotech, but the lab work was just not for me!)

I can't wait to say, "Yes, I am IN a nursing program! I will be a nurse practitioner!" :D

Funny, lots of people have also mentioned to me that I should be a nurse... actually when I was talking to people about how dissatisfied I was with my lab work, people would always say, "Have you ever thought about being a nurse? You'd be good at it."

Can't wait! (although clinicals are starting to scare me now...)

I can't wait because like some of you have stated, I too have been a stay at home mom. That "role" began for me in 1982, and wouldn't trade it for anything. I have a wonderful supportive retired Army guy for a husband, and three wonderful boys, or actually they are becoming men. The oldest is 21, next 18, and the youngest 13. I went to work for the first time in 1999 as a grocery store clerk for a few months, just after my DH retired. Then six months later a sub-teacher and bus driver, trying to find what I wanted to be when I grew up... I went to Tech school beginning in 2000 while working in the local school system as a teachers assistant. I quit that job in Jan. 2003 and went to school full time in the fall of that year, I graduated in May 2004 with an AAD(College Transfer Degree). In January of last year I decided that I wanted to pursue Nursing after the recommendation of my Biology instructor, who said that I would be great at it. Truthfully, I never thought I had enough brains to do something like that  , although I was always interested and loved watching medical shows. My husband used to tell me I was strange for wanting to watch people suffer, however that wasn't the way I saw it. I always looked at real medical shows, portraying the helping side of others, and thats what I want to do.

I too have have enjoyed taking A&P I and will finish II in a week. Studying for these classes has not been a burden, I believe it's because this is what I am supposed to do with my life. All prereqs out of the way, all I lack are the Nursing Classes, and I wish I could start today, as a matter of fact that is what I told my interviewers for the program, they must have liked that response, because HERE I GO!!!! :rotfl:

Best wishes to you all, and May God Bless you :)

I can't wait to start because after being a stay at home mom for 7 1/2 years I am ready for some adult interaction again:) I start May31st and I just got my book list...scary. I cant believe I am actually going to read all those BIG books.

I have been a stay at home mom for the past 7 years also, besides a part time job I worked as a CNA. Did they seem to give you a hard time during the application process about sitting at home and doing nothing for so long? They kind of made an issue out of it with me. I told them it wasn't that I was sitting home out of laziness, I called it "Home management" because I was waiting until my littlest ones started school to do anything full time. I didn't get in the first time I applied, they said only because they had too many applicants and only so many openings. We'll see if my luck changes this year. Good luck!

Specializes in Urgent Care.

I can't wait because I've been working in the medical field for over 10 years ( as a CMA), have been in classes for 3 years and I am losing my drive with this waiting list. I JUST CAN'T WAIT ANYMORE!!

I can't waite because I have always wanted to become a nurse. I was accepted into a nursing program back in the mid 90's, but dropped out before I even started classes, because of people telling me how difficult it will be, and not having enough confidence in myself that I could do it. :o So after that a few years later I went to Medical assisting school which I enjoyed, I have been a Registered Medical Assistant for seven Years.

I am going back to school now to get my RN degree at the encourgement of my husband, who use to allways tell me not out of meanness, that you could have been a nurse right now if you would have stayed in school. So now I am more determined than ever and very exicited about learning all of this medical information in nursing school, and to continue to help my patients by obtaining more advanced medical knowledge. :) The great pay and the variety of fields that I will be able to pursue comes in handy ,also the flexible hours that nurses can work.

Specializes in Neuro, Critical Care.

I cant wait becuase i'll finally have a career! I'll finally have something I enjoy and can work at that not everyone and their brother can do! I cant wait bc i'm so tired of being in college (goin on year 6 now). I cant wait bc i'm so tired of being POOR! I cant wait bc i'm sick of being a waitress! LOL i could go on forever!

Specializes in CTICU.

i can't wait because i'll finally be out of this limbo stage of not being in school and not having a career (working as an emt is a job but most certainly not a career).

I can't wait because I'll finally be headed in the right direction! Once I'm finished with school I will be able to support myself with out the help of someone elses income. Yay :balloons:

I am really excited, I went to the library tonight and checked out all sorts of nursing type books. I want to get a head start. I start my math class next month, then PN school in August. I just hope I pass the math, I kinda suck at it and I've been out of school for 13 years now.

Wow, it's great to see so many positive attitudes! I can't wait because I've been teaching 8th grade English for the past 3 years. I LOVE being a teacher, but spending every day with 13 year-olds can really get to you! I'm ready for something new. I've been playing with the idea of going into nursing for quite some time, but I finally made the decision when I gave birth to my first baby three weeks ago. I had planned on being a stay at home mom, but after getting to know the nurses in L&D, I knew I wanted to use this time to go back to school instead. I'm so excited!

I'm so glad to see I'm not the only nerd. I start in August, and I can't wait for just about every reason stated above. Mostly, after all of these prereqs, which I've really enjoyed by the way, I'll finally be learning real "nurse stuff". I register on June 1, and I go to the school every day (sometimes more than once) to see if the schedule has been listed yet. I took the second half of the summer off to prepare, and I know I'll be buying books and starting to read WAY early. My husband is tremendously supportive, but he thinks I'm a total nerd. I'm glad you guys understand!
