How far away (distance) will you apply?

I'm going to finish my prerequisites in Spring 09, so I'm going to start applying to schools in Fall. I'm having trouble deciding which schools to apply to, depending on how far I am willing to drive.

I know it depends on the school, but are most programs 3-4 days a week?

How far is the farthest school from you that you are applying to?

The farthest school that I applied to (that I will actually be attending) is 6 hours away from Houston. I applied to maybe 2 schools across the state and two local ones.

jennafezz, So interesting you posted this since this is something I was thinking about also. There's a school I was thinking about that's 89 miles away, in the Bay Area, which would be awful traffic. Still considering it. I'm definitely applying at Los Medanos, and that's an hour away, but traffic should be better. Even though I have a Prius, still don't want to be driving and driving when I should be studying.

Htown, wow, that's far! Hope you'll be relocating if you get accepted. Unfortunately not an option for me.

Yeah, I was mainly talking about how far away you would drive to school, not including relocation :)

I'll also be applying to Los Medanos, but it would only be a 40 min drive for me, I think. The farthest away that I am thinking of would be Modesto JC, which would be an hour or so.

Good luck :)

I finish my prereqs and will apply for the RN programs in the Fall also. I'll apply to Modesto also, which is 45 mins for me. And then of course all the Sac programs ~ Sierra, ARC, Sutter, and Sac City. But since I have my prereqs done for Los Medanos' LVN program I'll apply to that program in a couple months (January). Figured since everything's so impacted in CA I better apply as many places as possible! Good luck to you also!

I'm praying that I get to stay here in San Diego... with San Diego State only fifteen minutes away, that would just be ideal. If not, I did apply to Cal State Long Beach (go Beach!) so we'll see where I get in. I finish prereq's this semester Fall 08.

I plan on moving to where ever I get accepted. I live in sonoma county (northern bay area) so if its San Franciso (45 miles from me) I'll move there, and if its Long Beach (435 miles from me)... well, there is no way I'm gonna drive that much every day for nursing school!

The farthest away school I'm looking at it about 45 min/hr away. When clinicals can be an hour or so away from the school, that means possibly 2 hours to clinical, one way! So I'm not even seriously considering this school. If I were able to relocate it'd be another matter.

I'll be applying for a fall 2010 start and I'm really hoping to get into a cc in the next state. It's only about 20 mins away for me. I have to work full time so I can't go all that far. Otherwise I'd apply to schools farther away. This school has a pt eve/weekend program with clinicals on Sunday which means I won't have to miss work.

If I don't get in there I guess I'll be applying to an LPN program at a vocational school next to the cc or maybe a hospital program about 45 mins away. I'm pretty limited in my choices...

There are 2 local colleges, which would be less than 30 mins driving. The other 3 schools are about an hour away.

I'm determined to get into school. I may even apply to a school in another state once I finish my prerqs.

I will be traveling 58 minutes. I have classes all day Monday-Thursday and Monday and Wendesday nights. I gte paid well enough at my current job to stay in NWA. I plan on recording lectures and my book reading and listening to them during the commute-anything to kill time!

That's a good idea. I think I would need to make the drive productive in order to justify driving an hour.. hmm.
