Has anyone taken A&P online?

Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

Published

For my pre-reqs & co-reqs I need to take Zoology (A&P) 141 + 141L & 142 + 142L and at my school, they offer it online! So I wanted to see if anyone has taken these classes online?

I am contemplating on taking AP2 lecture online in Spring. Right now I am taking AP1 (in class) and so far so good. AP is a lot of info but if you are determined and disciplined you'll be fine. I've taken 2 online classes already (non-sciences) and I really loved it.

Well,I just had to withdraw from my online Anatomy.I have a 3.9 GPA and this class was torture. Dont get me wrong,I did great in the lab portion. That was hands on and I did well on all the tests. But,the lecture was online and it was up to us to know the material and understand it.There is something that is lost when you dont have a concept explained to you.

I realized that Anatomy was the foundation of my nursing education. They say if you get an A in anatomy, expect to get a b or c in nursing school.Well, that online class was Not doing for me!

Just thought you might want to hear another opinion!

A.

FYI I took online algebra last semster and recieved an A.Online anatomy is a different ballgame!!

I just spoke to a co-worker who did AP2 last summer and do not recommend AP online. Thanks Amber74!

I'm currently taking A&P 1 through Edukan.org and doing well. I like the online format tho I think I would benefit from having a "study buddy" and there really isn't an opportunity to form that kind of relationship online. But still, I think it's a great way to take classes and it works really well for me since my schedule is very erratic and can be unpredictable.

Will be taking A&P2 the same way and as many prereq's as I can online.

I think it just depends upon your learning style. If you are ok with going solo and can force yourself to do the work without an instructor looming over you, then online is great. I have met people who did not like it too and dropped classes to take them on campus. If you are very visual and need to look at 3-D models, then you probably should take it on campus. If, however, you can visualize things out of the book or on websites, online is a great place to be. There are people that love it (me) and people who hate it. Either way, I think it all boils down to learning styles. ;)

If the class is completly online, how do they test the lab portion? We had to know all bones and identify them.Wouldnt you be able to look at your book when you tested?

We have to take all of our exams at a testing center. The testing center can be anywhere (you just have to make arrangements with the professor).

For the Edukan A&P course we had to buy software that has 3D models that you can "dissect". There are assignments every week for the lab portion.

All of the tests are online as well. They are timed and there's really no way you can take the tests without knowing the material ahead of time. There just isn't time to be looking up all the answers.

CCConline is set up similarly to edukan, it sounds like. The tests are open-book, but they are timed as well. You cover so much at once that, if you don't know the information, you are never going to find it in time to complete the test. Our slides are online and we have to describe them and what is going on for labs as well as find slides to represent different things. We did not have to buy extra software, however, it was all provided by the college. Labs entail a lot of writing and description and articulation online. It is very challenging, but also a lot of fun if you keep up with the homework. We are never required to go to the campus with these classes. ;)

Is edukan.org a good and accredited school to take online classes? Now that you mention this site..i'm thinking about taking A&P through them.

I am not too familiar with edukan because I don't take classes from them, but they were recommended to me as an accredited school. I might have chosen them, but I happen to live in Colorado, so CCConline did not entail out-of-state tuition for me, which is why I am going through them. It seems like both programs have gotten positive feedback regarding online learning. My suggestion would be to check with the school that you intend to take your nursing classes through and make sure that credits from edukan would transfer to it. If they do, then you should be good to go. Just make sure beforehand though - it would be awful to take the courses only to find out they won't transfer in. Best of luck to you - enjoy A&P online - it's fun! ;)
