Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

I need to ask this to see if anyone knows! Does an ADN program from a hospital school of nursing look more at your required pre-req grades then grades that were from 11 years ago that are not even nursing school related? I am doing FAR better in my pre-req's then i did in my other associates degree in 2000. I am so afraid that is going to keep me from getting accepted even though I do very well in nursing pre-reqs.

They do not state anywhere in their packet as to what they focus on. I have to submit HS transcripts, college, an essay, PSB-RN results and 2 references. Man, I sure hope they look close and see how well I do now and NOT 11 years ago. I mean my GPA 10 years ago was only a 2.5. UGH. I was YOUNG and not focused and now know what I want to do and I LOVE learning about it so I don't mind studying at all. I am getting ready to send in my packet next week, just waiting on one more reference to come in. :yeah:

I am also applying to a hospital's diploma program, and they gave us very little info about the admission criteria as well.

They did tell me that 60% of the evaluation is the entrance exam score (they use TEAS), and they told my girlfriend that they do average ALL grades, no matter the age, for the GPa portion of the points system. She is over 40, and they took into account her high school and previous (unrelated) college grades. This pretty much pushed her out of contention even though she has very good grades this time around, in her pre-reqs.

I hope this does not discourage you, because your program could very well be different; it's just a possibility.

Good luck to you. I will not get discouraged. Where I am applying to does not use a points system. They didn't say anything about what they look at. Not one thing. I am applying more than one school of nursing. I am also applying to my local community college and I can opt to have them use at least 12 of my newest classes for my GPA! THere is another hospital north of where I love that uses the TEAS and the points system, I am debating on whether or not I want to apply, I don't want to have to take another stinkin' entrance exam. But I will play it by ear and see what happens if I don't get accepted into my first choice.

You're welcome, and the best of luck to you as well!!! Sounds like you have done your homework, and you'll be fine.

(If you do end up taking the TEAS, don't stress! Most of it is incredibly easy compared to the SAT or ACT -- none of the reserving a date months in advance, studying obscure facts and mechanisms, etc.; it's just a really streamlined, basic test. You'll blow it away!)
