Can't compute pH using TI-83 Plus, please help

  1. Using the TI-83 Plus I enter: -log(1.0 X 10E-6), the answer I keep getting is 5 but I know the answr should be 6, any idea on what I am doing wrong? Every calculation seems to be one off the right answer.

I think you don't need to put in the 10 if you use the e button so it would look like this -log(1.0e-6) or -log(1.0x10-6). I hope that helps.

yup....don't put the "10" in there. If you use the EE button...then 10 is implied. I wrote a nifty little pH program for my TI-83. I'm not sure if you can post attach files to this forum...otherwise I would post it here for all to use. The only problem...after spending the time to write the program...I have all of the calculations memorized. Another interesting way to study.
