Well as I said yesterday, I actually made the call to the admissions office at the local community college where I live and left a message...and I recieved a call back this morning and Ms. Joyce said she would send me the information on the Nursing Program:balloons: Also, I don't need an appointment to speak to an Admissions Officer, simply come in between 8a-5p, Mon-Fri. I wish I had someone to go with me. I know I'm being a big baby about this but I know what's going to happen, I'll go and stand out front as usually looking in and WIMP OUT! I'll get butterflies in my stomach and start to perspire...I think in my other life, I was murdered in a college classroom or at least in the building.

I am 41 years old, I will do this damn it. I will do this!!!!!:monkeydance: :monkeydance: :monkeydance: :monkeydance:

I'm the same way. It's usually easier to actually do things when you have someone right there with you. Trust me, it's not as bad as your thinking. They'll basically just go over with you what your plan of action should be (at least that is what they did for me when I went in 2004).

Are you going to go today? I'll be thinking of you and I'll be right there urging you to go in!! You can do it!!! And then you'll be on your way. It is truly the best thing I've done for myself (next to my daughter of course) and you'll realize that the further in to it you get!

No, I can't go today, I'm at work and don't get off until 5pm. I'm trying to contact a friend of mine to go with me. But, if she doesn't go, I'll go by myself after all she won't be attending class with me. If I can get pass the initial enrollment and interview, I'll be fine.

Don't wait for your friend...you need to do this YOURSELF.

College is not a complex process...it takes people to explain it to you. That is the ENTIRE job of the people in admissions...they will guide you on how to apply for financial aid, how to pick your classes, even tell you how to buy your books.

It's very important that you become more independent and do things yourself if you want to complete the program successfully.

However, you are making the right steps..never be afraid to venture out on your own!

:o I agree with you however, I can't seem to shake this feeling...I had it for years about attending college. I am feel so intimidated by the entire process of enrolling. But, I know I can do it 90% of the time if I can just get pass the enrollment part.

I think once you actually go to the college and walk into that building, your fear will disappear.

I still have what I call a "mini" panic attack before an exam...every time. I have had to just sit there for as long as five minutes to calm down enough so my pencil will stop shaking...once I start, I am always fine.

Colleges are typically not like going to a medical doctor, the DMV or some other gov't agency where they don't give a flip...part of their job is to make you feel welcomed and that you can do this.

Just get a little confidence, add a little faith...and I think once you do a couple of "baby steps" you'll be up and running!

Well, however you decide to do it, just know it's not as bad as you think - it's very informative and once your done talking to them, you feel SOOOO much better and are excited to get started!!! Good luck with however you decide to proceed from here and let us know how it goes when you do go and speak to someone. I was nervous as well, but I did it and it was not bad at all - they are VERY helpful!

Are you going to a community college? Remember, they hardly, if ever, turn anyone away! You're just going to enroll in classes! It's their job to be helpful. They will guide you through the entire process!

Hi Chubbi! I am 41 as well, and I was extremely nervous to go back to school too. Can you enroll online? That's what I did! The only time I ever go to the administration building is to buy my books or my semester parking pass. Everything else can be done online, which is not nearly as intimidating as being there!

you took the first step---that in itself is huge!!!! now you can take the second step! like you said yourself you can do it!!! if i could go with you i would. however i agree with the posts that you should try and do this on your own. don't let your age hinder you in any way! i'm 48 and i

feel like a crazy maniac waiting for an acceptance letter.
