I currently attend a 4 year California State University and I want to be a nurse. I have asked several of my peers which degree path should I pursue, ADN or BSN? They all told me the same thing...it doesn't matter. You won't get paid more if you obtain a BSN unless you have a superior position. I just want to be an RN I don't want to be incontrol of everyone or be the one in charge. If you want to be the Head of the RNs or have a higher status, I would choose a BSN. I am going to transfer to a community college because I am struggling to get my prereq classes because they are already full. I only have three classes left: microbio, physio, anatomy...I saved the hardest for last not because I planned it that way, I just couldn't get into them. I will get an ADN because I want to be done and start my future nursing career. If anyone wants to be a nurse or is thinking about it...just do it without hestitation and start taking your prereqs as soon as possible, don't wait until you are a junior to decide that you want to be a nurse like I did...

I am going straight for my BSN.. Why? Because I have been a LVN now for 5 years and I know if I dont just do it I never will. This forces me to complete my degree. An RN at any level is great but I know that if I decided to get a masters in anything I need a BSN first...

I'm doing the MSN route because actually it was the fastest and easiest way for me to become a nurse. After 1.5years, I'll be able to sit for my NCLEX and then 1.5 years more, I'll be an NP. Plus for taking my pre-reqs, since I am going back to the school I got my BA from, it was just a matter of saying I wanted to go back and I was in. Of course, getting into the MSN program wasn't that simple, but it was worth it. :) Good luck in whichever path you take

I chose mine the long and hard way. I started off as an LPN, got my ADN 10 yrs ago, and now am working on my BSN/MSN. I did it this way because I had a family to take care of. If I had it to do all over again, would I change the way I did it?? Nope........ going step by step gave me the experience I needed to be a better student as I progressed up the ladder. Now my kids are 16 and 13 and Im 3 semesters from my MSN. Think I planned it pretty well, we compete (in a fun way) with grades. They cant stand it when I make higher on a test than they do or have an overall better grade. It makes them try harder to achieve more. Not to mention, I will be finished with all my degrees by the time my oldest one starts college himself.
