Any Miami Dade College students going for the acceler. or Generic option fall 2009?

U.S.A. Florida

I am currently at Miami Dade College fulfilling prerequisites in order to apply for the Nursing program that starts fall 2009. I'd like to be in touch with other career changers who after getting a bachelor's in a non-nursing field decided to pursue the program at Miami Dade College.

Thanks for your interest!

Has anybody receive a rejection letter yet???

Just called I was told that all letters for Accelerated option have been sent... I havent received anythin white or yellow:yawn:

No letter yet ...................i will check when i get home after 5pm:(

I have my mom on mail box duty :D she has strict instructions of not letting the mail man leave unless he has a letter for me :icon_roll

BCC doesnt have a waiting list
Then they must have taken it away. I got the info on this site and there are several peeps that say that's how they got in. That's the main issue with reading year old threads, things change. My bad, I stand corrected. Since, I only applied to MDC and did not bother with BC. My BC info is not as strong, for I'm mainly focused on the MDC program.

For example, several years ago MDC required the NET test plus GPA to get in. Obviously, that's not the case any longer.

Also, 1 week ago a MDC advisor told me that the cutoff GPA was 3.5 but so far that was incorrect as well.

That's the beauty of this forum, we can bounce info back and forth until it's verified and just disregard what is not.

Nothing in the mail again today... well i dont if i should start thinking if it because its going to be a white envelope... even though shen09 got it pretty early...

I found the post I got that from. It's called Applying to MDC RN Generic Prgm for Fall 08

I agree with you SouthFLRN 100%

I live in miami, and MDC is only 15minutes away from me, and I was rejected from there 5x's!!!

I sent them a letter explaining how much I wanted to be a student at MDC and no luck.

I ended up at BCC and it was tough. But I am so so so thankful that they gave me the opportunity to even be a student in the RN program.

I don't know why people claim that MDC is the best, when their NCLEX-RN scores are lower than BCC students. You can see that for yourself at myflorida.com.

And that is that BCC does not have exit exams after each semester like MDC, BCC accepted people on a wait list with min. GPA of 2.0

BCC-wins when it comes to NCLEX-RN (and we have better uniforms! blue scrubs with BCC logos, unlike MDC with the white blouse with teal green collar-yuck!)

All nursing schools are very challenging.

But actually getting into MDC is a challenge. Some of us started out with other majors, and therefore do not have a 3.5 that MDC requires to get in their program.

But those who are lucky enough to start their GPA's from scratch are aware of keeping that GPA up to par.

I have a belief that everything happens for a reason, and there is a reason why I was not accepted to MDC.

BCC ended up being a good school for me.

(OH and BTW even when I was in nursing school at BCC, I wanted to transfer after the first semester for MDC program, so I didn't have to drive up to broward.... and they still wouldn't take me in. they told me that they did not have space, that all the classes were full.... go figure)

Does anyone know if we are supposed to register for ATI student account now or at the testing center? How much does it cost. I went in and it looks like if you press register that it takes you to the test itself, but they have it in the packet as if we are supposed to create the profile before we arrive for the test on the 24th.

Well I know the lowest GPA accepted by BCC this semester was 2.9 I have friends in that program and they are doing well so far........(JUST AN FYI)

Hey guys guess what. I went to the medical campus today to find out just *** was going on cuz they have some of us in limbo. I asked the lady at the front desk in the nursing dept if she could tell me if I got in or not cuz I hadnt heard anything yet. So at first she gave this real nasty attitude and told me that they could not give me that information and that I had to wait to get something in the mail. So i told her that I couldnt wait too long because if I didnt get in then i needed to change majors and register early for this semesters classes before they all get taken. She went off tto get some other lady who was really nice. She told me that I came in No. 120 and that they had stopped at 98 for the full time Generic option, then I asked her if I had a chance with the part time and she told me I came in No. 41 and they stopped and 39!!!!!! Can you beleive this? Anyways she told me not to give up because I was sooo close and to check back with her next week because she was positive they would allow a few more people 3-5 because some people dont accept for whatever reason. So i am staying positive and hope a few of those slots open for us!!!!!! We have to pray harder guys God works in mysterious ways.......GOOD LUCK TO ALL WHO HAVE NOT RCVD ANYTHIG AS OF YET!!!

WOW!!! That is so CLOSE!! I am almost sure you will get in! Yay! :) :) :)

Hi guys, I'm a little confused about the immunizations required for the Generic option ( I don't know if the accelerated and bridge options require same type and amount of vaccines), in the first page of the vaccines/immunization record it says two immunizations are required for Varicella, but when I turn the page, it says only one vaccine is necessary. So, how many immunizations are really required for Varicella, and if you know a place where I can get them at a cheap price.

Thanks to all.
