Anatomy (AP1): Is there a particular order?

Students Pre-Nursing

Hello everyone:

I'm scheduled to take Anatomy this fall and I wanted to familiarize myself with some of the systems (I'm currently taking an EKG course and because of it, I am able to become familiar with the A & P of the heart, so I'm happpy about that.) Anyway, for those of you who have already taken Anatomy, which system did you start out with, which was second, and third...Any advice/info would be appreciated, TIA!

Hey there! Well, it's been a while (I took Anatomy last Fall semester).. but I'll try to remember...

Initially, you start out with cells and studying histology. It's quite interesting, but overwhelming at least. I hadn't been in school for a long while, so when I started back and jumped into histology, I was a bit scared. (it turned out great though)...

I think we went on to study the skeletal system, muscular system, cardiovascular system, nervous system, circulatory system, respiratory system, digestive system, urinary, endocrine, immune system and then reproductive system... I could be off, but I think that sounds about right.

Whatever the case may be... each system somehow intertwines with the next so when you learn about one, you can be pretty certain they will throw about 3 others at you at the same time.... :trout:

Good luck to you. I loved taking Anatomy. I wish I could do it again...

My personal experience with A & P I and II are a bit different than some of you. I go to an accelerated school. All of our classes are 5 days a week 4-6 hours a day and are only a month long. My classes were tough mostly because we covered 1 chapter, or body system per day. Once we left class after 4-5 hours we went home and studied for 6-8 more hours. A&P I for me was, for the most part, anatomy (Except for the first chapter and it was histology). A&P II was the Physiology side of the course. The how does it work. I made an A in AP I and a B in AP II. I found it a bit tougher, but our schedules are fairly grueling. We cover in a month what other schools cover in 3 months in regular colleges. Our instructor teaches at a local 4 year college and he said he teaches us exactly what he teaches the 4 year students only, as I said, he teaches it to us in a third of the time.

Anyways, I am giving you some great sites to help you get started. They helped me considerably in especially AP I

Anatomy is so much fun. I really enjoyed the 2 classes I have taken so far. My classes followed the chapters in the books so that may be how your instructor has designed the class. Perhaps you could drop an email and ask what the first few systems will be. We started with cell biology and histology, tissues, etc. Another idea is to contact a former student of that instructor and ask.

Good luck and I hope you enjoy your class!

Do a search on your school's website using the course number and the word syllubus. If you can find your professor's syllubus, fantastic! But even if you don't, all the teachers probably follow the same order, so you can start reading.

Good Luck!

Peace,

Cathie
