A&P I Spring 2007 Semster - Welcome!

Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

Published

I will be taking A&P I next semester when I come back from Christmas break for the Spring 2007 semester. I didn't know if someone was going to start a group or not, so I thought I would create a thread to find those of us who have been "getting our feet wet" and are going to start into the fun stuff during the Spring 2007 semester. I look forward to seeing who all will be feeling my pain!

YIKES!!! How is your book layed out? My book is layed out with the foundations and builds from there. I don't start till Thursday, and I hope my teacher explains things better than that. Sorry to hear about your hard day. Do you have any software or extra materials to help you grasp concepts?

Thank you :)

The book is by Marieb and I love it...now. The CD that goes along with it is so helpful. The activites and the quizzes boosted my confidence whereas before I thought I was studying and getting nowhere.

I feel better now but Im about to go to class in a couple hours and have more info crammed down my noggin.

Best of luck tomorrow

first class was a whirlwind yesterday... unfortunately it's from 6 - 10 pm (lecture then lab) so i pretty much crapped out around 7:30 becase i didn't eat dinner (won't make that mistake again). i'm hoping to sit down and make some sense of it all when i get off work this afternoon.

i did find something rather unusual about my prof for this class and am curious to hear other people's opinions on it....

he constantly mentioned god during the lecture - the miracle of life, how flawless all the systems fit together, etc. and also said in not so many word that our lives are predetermined and nothing anyone does can change the amount of time we have been given - we can only increase or decrease the quality of life we have been given.

now, i'm no atheist, but i personally feel this isn't the place for this kind of discussion. we don't attend a catholic/christian/religious school, it's just a community college. what he's saying doesn't really apply to the subject matter, and i'm afraid he may be agravating some people in the class or making them uncomfortable if they don't feel how he feels.

any got $0.02 to contribute?

all that aside - full speed ahead

Personally, I find that refreshing. The human body is amazing, and the professor recognizes that, and is sharing how inspired he is by it. I would much rather have a professor who is inspired by what he is teaching, then one who doesn't even mention the seeming miracle of it, and is uninspired. Don't be offended by the thought of others being offended. My last professor rambled on about the Bush admin, the war etc, and he was teaching chemistry. I am a Republican, and wasn't offended. The guy next to me had a huge scar on his hand from a roadside bomb in Iraq. He had to listen to him ramble on about how the war was useless. He sat there and didn't say anything, and got an A. At least your professor stays on subject.

:lol2: You and the other classmates will make it through.

I agree! I really don't get why people get offended when others mention or share their beliefs. The professor obviously believes in God so why shouldn't he mention the miracle that God created in his Anatomy class? As long as he isn't lecturing you on his beliefs I see no problem with him metioning them time to time.

Good luck and don't worry about how others are feeling about what your professor is saying! Let them worry about it. Have a great semester!

thanks for your comments - i never looked at it that way

now, off to nap and soak in the first couple chs. of my a&p book.

I had my first class today. I enjoyed it. We are going to be using the same book for General and Advanced A&P. Our instructor is breaking General A&P into just anatomy, and Advanced A&P into physiology. She is very organized, and appears to be someone you can learn much from. She does use Power Point, and hands out the notes, but she also uses examples and lots of visuals. She also is going to give us a lot of writing assignments where we have to write essays on different topics. As of now, it looks like it is going to be a good semester.

I'm going to start in one week. I know some of you will love this: due to my job and location, the only time I can take class is by using the weekend only option. I go once per week, Sunday from 9:00AM to 3:30PM. Two classes in a single day, the whole thing occurs in the lab.

LOL! One long day, I think!

9-3:30  You are much braver than I am! One great thing about it is that you will have more time between each class.

Have a great semester!

Is anyone taking this class online this semester?! Where?!

I am excited for my next class, so I am trying to figure out what to do till Monday. I have finished the first chapter, did all the practice tests online, and decided to read the second chapter, LOL. I am such a geek.

So it is the end of the first week of school and I am already responsible for learning the entire skeletal system.

We had to outline the chapters regarding the Axial and Appendicular skeletons. I have finally finished the Axial skel. ten pages later....

I have memorized most of the skull already, although there are a few more characters i must master.

I am having trouble learning the characteristics of the vertebraes though. That is very difficult because they all look so similar but have differing variations. Anyone have any tips in regards to that???

I cannot believe I have done all this in one week! On one hand I am very proud of what I have acomplished so far, but as soon as I think of all the other regions of the body I must learn I get stressed.

Are your classes going at this pace as well?

 Mine isn't going that fast. We have to go through basic chemistry, cells, tissues before we get to any system. She threw you right in. Which is kind of neat. I have all those "blah" chapters first. You will do great I am sure.

To add: Here is a link to anatomy of the vertebrae. Scroll down and you can choose which vertebrae to study:
