A&P II: The Summer '05 Anatomy & Physiology Club

Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

Published

Decided to go ahead and create a new thread...

I am taking A & P II at Valencia Community College in Orlando FL. We start May 12th...

I am an Online ASN Student at Deaconess College of Nursing in St Louis. I have taken a leave of absense for the summer so I will only be focusing on A & P. Guess I am not really a pre-nursing student, hope no one minds.

I am looking forward to sharing experiences!

We did our heart dissection, ABO test & looked at slides for WBC under the micrscope. Last tuesday was the hemocrit. What suprised me was that during the hemocrit we did absolutely nothing. Dave (the instructor) just explained how it is done. And then we did not even get to use our own blood for the ABO & the WBC slides. I was disappointed. Though I did find all the different types of WBC except of course basophils.

So in your lab do you get to use your own blood?

No we used synthetic blood.....we were told we can't use our own blood because of insurance. We looked at slides of real blood but when we did typing we used synthetic blood.

Labs are my biggest complaint with this class. I paid for lab fees when I registered and all we do in "lab" is fill in paper labs. :angryfire We havent dissected anything (not that Im complaining). We dont even use models to study for practicals; we study out of our book. At first I was cool with it, but the more I thought about I want a new professor :crying2:

I can relate. We have spent 3 nights "filling in the blanks". At least last night we got to rummage around previously disected cats.

It makes for a really boring lab, but there is a benefit I have come to. You get the labeling part done in class, therefore you can study study study when you get home. :)

I passed my midterm!!!! :balloons:

I didn't do as good as I thought, I got a 75, but with this online course it's all self-teaching and a lot of people end up failing it so a 75 is actually pretty good. I'll probably pull a B out of the class, which this morning I was gonna be happy just to pass with a C. Insane....2 more months to go :crying2:

Congrats! Good luck with the last half of your class. :)

Who's a sheep's heart pro? I made a powerpoint quiz, but really need someone to double check it before I start studying it.

Thanks in advance.

We actually did use our own blood for our typing labs, we did them in both 1&2. It always turns into this huge ordeal for me, because I'm AB-. The instructors ALWAYS insist that I did something wrong, so they end up resticking me (at least once) and doing the test again..Craziness..

Critical Thinking questions at the end of each chapter....

We have to do CT questions, but I've never had to do them before. I am using Marieb, 6th edition.

Has anyone found that the answers are straight from the Homeostatic Imbalance sections? Am I doing this wrong, or is answering these just that easy??????
