*microbiology Summer 07*

Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

Published

Hi All!

I peeked and didn't see a thread for those of us brave souls attempting micro this summer so I thought I would just start one! My class starts July 2nd, but I'm already getting a little freaked about it! ANYWHO! Good luck and let's all keep in touch!

:sniff:

I studied almost 25 hours for an exam we had today and I knew when I finished it I wouldn't get an A, and now I don't even think I got a B.

ALL of the major things that he said to study...things that I knew well..none of those were on the exam. Silly stuff like how many carbons were in glucose, were (I didn't know the formula, because it was never mentioned, I could, however, recognize a Lewis-dot structure)...little things like that will cause you to screw up an exam.

I am so down right now...this is only Chapter 2, and 3 is MASSIVE...I HAVE to do well on the next one.

I'm just really down right now.

Not to cause you anymore stress and I'm not trying to downplay the importance of microbiology, but if you're going to stress out over anything, it should be the RN NCLEX when you take that in the future. Microbiology, Anatomy, and Physiology mean nothing to me (gee, maybe because I'm an experienced LVN).

If you're stressing out over a prerequisite class, wait until you hit the floor as an RN. RN's today barely remember their microbiogy class(atleast the older nurses I've worked with).

ouchie thats harsh. today seems like a everyone be mean day.

I know what you mean though about having an ambiguous teacher. I played that game all last semester and it was awful. Im taking micro over the summer now and I love my teacher. She has no secrets :)

My mom, who is an RN, just kept telling me that having bad teachers makes you a better student. I just learned to study all the random info in addition to what they said we needed to know. Go above and beyond and you will have less stress and come out on top. Thats how I managed an A with a teacher who gave me no guidance.

Hey, I actually posted this in the wrong forum...I'm taking an AP class, but Lord knows I needed the sympathetic ear all the same.

I finally think I have figured out where he is taking about 85% of the test questions from. Something just "clicked"...I'm going to start with those and move my way up.

I agree...I don't have a choice but to be worried about my class. Grades that are not vowels don't get you into graduate school!

Guess I should jump on the bandwagon here!

My micro class starts on Monday. 8 week class, 5 days a week! And on top of it, 3 days a week it starts at 7:30 am and I live 20-30 min from the school! No good! But it was the only class I could get into, the rest were full!

Good luck to everyone!

hi, guys! i just posted these links for another student on a different forum who was looking for some help with microbiology. good luck to all of you!

I'm sure that hopeful2009 was just upset because she/he wants to have good grades. I TOTALLY understand! I am the same way! I think if there were a few less C-student nurses the world would be a better place! ;)

Hopeful2009- Don't get to upset over it. As you said, it is still early in the class, and in my experience, the chemistry and all of that tend to come first. And to add to Predaking's post, a less-than-perfect grade in micro doesn't make you a bad nurse. Chin up!!!

thanks for the links! i think i speak for everyone when i say that we can use all the help we can get!!!!

Hello all. I just wanted to update everyone on my first test. I made a 68:o i am a little disappointed, but i know i didn't study as hard as i should have. I had a quiz in lab also, that didn't go so bad. But i have 4 more test left in lecture including one next week. Wish me luck.

I here ya.... I made a 68 on our first quiz and was floored! I had spent some serious time studying and had read all 180 pages. We have our first exam this tuesday and I am re-reading everything and making tons of notes. It is frustrating to actually comprehend the material but miss the esoteric questions that were choosen for the quiz..grrr. I plan to do better on the test and we at least get to drop our lowest quiz grade.

Specializes in LTC.

I am taking micro, statistics and world geography this summer. What was I thinking??!!!!!!

My micro instructor is full of personality and fun but she's horrible about organization. I have no idea what chapters we are supposed to be covering. We started our 3rd project today (it's the 2nd day of class) and something is supposed to be turned in next time but I don't know what it is exactly. I am an A student but have no idea what is going on in this class.

Anybody know of any websites that have pictures or animations that will help?

I also have children and started my micro class 3 weeks ago. Im not good with focusing my microscope either but i did get an A on my first lecture exam!!!
