Pre-nursing student needs advice! PCC/ECU

Published

I am 17 years old and just graduated high school in June. I am working as a nursing assistant and KNOW I want to be a nurse. I am taking a few pre-reqs online this summer at Pitt Community College. I will be a full-time student there this fall but I am having doubts about going to nursing school there. I know their program is great, but I really think I might want my 4 year degree so I don't have to be a floor nurse forever. I am very interested in going into the nurse anethesist program at ECU one day. Can someone give me some advice! Thanks :)

If a 4 year degree is what you want, I say go for it! You should always follow your first mind. Since you just graduated, I take it that you still live with your parents. So I think you should go for your four year degree, and the nurse anethesist program. Especially if you don't really have any rent or bills. You shouldn't have to take a short cut. If that is what your heart desires than do it.

You could always take prereqs at the CC and then transfer to a university's nursing program - that way you will already have a BSN under your belt and that much closer to becoming a CRNA. If that's your ultimate goal then you'll need the BSN. Most CC's programs take just as long as the BSN by the time you finish prereqs and the nursing program anyway....might as well go for the BSN, assuming this is an option for you.

hi, mustangsally1988!

are you talking about east carolina university in greenville, nc? there is information here about their nurse anesthesist program here http://www.nursing.ecu.edu/msn_concentrations.htm#na

it is a master's degree program which means you most likely need a bsn in order to apply for acceptance. you should write to the ecu school of nursing and ask them to send you specific information about this program as well as an application (so you can see what the requirements are that you will need to apply). here is a list of the bsn schools in pennsylvania with links to their websites for you to explore

http://www.allnursingschools.com/find/results.php?program=bachelors-degrees&st=pa&submit=find+a+school

if you want to look for aa schools within your state go to the home page of this site http://www.allnursingschools.com/ and click on "find a school" at the left side of the home page. it will take you to a search page where you chose the type of degree you want from a drop down menu and your state from another drop down menu. what this site will give you is contact information. since almost all colleges have websites, you can do an internet search for a specific college website and once there go to the school of nursing pages for specific information about their nursing school. it'll save you having to send out letters or making phone calls except to the schools you are most interested in.

something else you can do to find aa and bsn nursing programs in your state is to contact the pennsylvania board of nursing and ask for a list of approved rn schools. i tried to pull up a list for you from their website but was not able to. the board of nursing list will be the most accurate and complete list.

while you're doing all this, you should also check out the information for students at this site http://www.collegeboard.com/ and also learn about nursing school entrance exams at this site
