I am entering my last semester of nursing school, and all of my classmates are talking about where to do practicums at. I would like to hear from past AA students about where and what floor their practicum was done at. My instructor said that practicums should be done on the floor that you would least likely want to work on (L&D). I on the other hand am interested in the ER, and would like to do practicum there. I need your help. Any input is welcomed. Thanks

Why on earth would you do your practicum some place where you would never consider working??? That makes no sense to me at all. This is your opportunity to really experience an area of nursing where you think you want to specialize. It's a trial run, and can also be an opportunity to impress a prospective employer enough so that they will offer to take you on at the end of it. Many of my fellow students are using this experience to get a foot in the door. If you are interested in working in the ER then that is where you should ask to do your practicum. Don't let your instructors try to talk you out of exploiting this experience to your best advantage (not make their life simpler).
