I'm in the program. I understand that in the first clinical semester you have a few days on campus. It's some kind of lab check off...casting, suturing, etc, from what I hear. I'll be doing it this fall.

    Hi there!

I am currently in the online FNP program there as well. You must be slotted to take your Diagnostic and Assessment class in the fall if you have to go to campus in Dec. Those 3 days are "clinical class" days. It will build on what you study during the semester in your diag and assess class.

You will be given a case scenario, then when you go in front of the instructor they will ask questions regarding that scenario. You have to tell them what your findings are, your differential diagnosis, write your prescriptions etc. I took this semester off and will start back next month. My clinical experiences have been absolutely wonderful! I diagnosed a "snapped tendon" (the guy hit his arm with a reciprocating saw), looked like a minor scratch on his arm, but when I assessed him....he had a small area about mid-forearm that was swollen, inability to move his thumb, etc...... wound up sending him to a hand surgeon, and they had to go in and find his tendon! Tons of sinusitis, strep, flu, mono, wound up admitting a patient directly to the hospital to rule out MI, got to write all of the admission orders etc.........then did rounds with my preceptor at the hospital. That class made everything click, then when I went into my 3 days on campus, it stuck with me and I was able to go through the scenario with no problems.

This takes all three days? Are you doing actual scenarios with a patient or "dummy" patient? We get to do assessments on them? How's your prostate sir...roll over, please!!
