Nursing Students Post Graduate

Published

Hi I was wondering if anyone has actually started or finished GWU Online Family Nurse Practitioner program and could give me any insight into how the program was? I was also curious if anyone did the program and was an out of state student (not in the DC/Virginia area) and how it went for you? Thank you!

Not AG-PCNP but I applied for ADN-BSN-FNP 2014[/quote']

I missed the deadline on FNP.. :(

Glad to hear from someone else... Iive been told it's a really good program.. Do you have any idea what the timeline on decisions ?

Are you doing BSN to FNP? The ADN to FNP deadline is 4/1. That website was confusing. No idea on decision time but I hope soon!!!

I ended up applying for the MSN FNP program to start in fall 2014, and I just found out Friday I got accepted!

Congratulation... .thats so exciting.....it seems like they had a quick turn around time ... My CAS info was sent over this week for the AG-PCNP . I hope they turn it around fairly quick.. I'm ready to concentrate on attending instead of waiting.. :).

Calibean,

Hi! Congrats on nearing completion of your FNP program. What an accomplishment. I am highly considering an FNP program and want to know if you would recommend the online format over in-person b&m? Did you feel that you were self-teaching or that you had enough support to feel that you were being effectively taught the information. Thanks in advance! :)

I finished the program last summer and have been working as an NP for almost 6 months now. I didn't have the option of a b&m because of my location. Had I wanted to go it would have required at least a 1 1/2 hour drive each way. I don't know. I did well at GW and think I got a good education, but did spend a lot of time self teaching but it was not much different from my BSN education - where I also spent a lot of time self-teaching. I think you have to be very proactive and reach out to faculty if you are struggling or not understanding something and you have to find a good network of other students who you can collaborate with. I think the thing I missed most about a b&m was establishing relationships with the other students and having others to moan about the horrors of school. I still keep in touch with a lot of my friends from my BSN, but very few from my Masters because you just don't have the same connection if you aren't spending all those hours together in class. Back to the education - if you pick a good school and you are dedicated and motivated - you will do fine. Hope that answered your question.

Hi Calibean-- I have a few questions about the GW program.. I am going to send you a friend request so I can ask you directly if that's okay! Thanks!

I was accepted in the fall 2014 fnp program!

Congrats! When did you apply? Did you get your acceptance via mail? I'm still waiting to hear!

Update: I got an email today that stated my application is under review by the admissions committee so I'm just waiting to hear!

Calibean, congrats on such a great accomplishment.

Does GWU have synchronous logins/classes? Their brochure states they do. But I would like to hear if you've experienced it.

Thanks:)

Hi Calibean,

I live in Florida and I am interested in applying to GW FNP program. Will they provide me a list of approved clinical sites in FL, do I provide them a list of places that I am considering to do my clinicals and GW approves them, how does that process works? ? I am a bit worried about the clinicals because I really don't want to get stuck driving to far to do clini
