Any UCSF Mepn Applicants?

Nursing Students Post Graduate

Published

Hi everyone--

Has anyone else out there applied to the UCSF MEPN program? They're supposed to send out letters this month (December) for the interview process. Has anyone gotten a letter yet? Will those that aren't asked to the interview process get a rejection letter now?

Crossing my fingers...!

Hi Guys,

I'm applying for the MEPN 09 and saw a "personal history statement" section. I called Info this morning and she said it should be about 3 or 4 lines, but she couldn't confirm it with me and told me to look at the website.

Am I crazy? I can't seem to find the format or length of this part of the application. I think I've been staring at it too much. Any advice?

i wouldn't stress about that part-you tell your story in the statement of goals section. she told you it probably only needs to be a paragraph because ucsf wants to collect demographic info regarding diversity and there is your opportunity to complete it.

Thanks Haiku! That puts things in perspective. Phew!:p

Hiii nightnurse! my name is pauline tom and im interested in the ucsf achin track also! Are you in the program already? Please email me back at . looking forward to hear from you!

Hey ptomgirl,

Sorry, haven't been on here for a while. No, I didn't end up getting in (was #2 on the alternate list) and it was a total bummer because I didn't get my rejection letter until the middle of July! I'm now trying to hustle and find a good volunteer opportunity to strengthen my candidacy but as you know, time is limited...I shouldn't have waited to hear from them but I didn't want to start something just to have to quit... I would be totally willing to touch base with you.

How is the application world going for you guys? I know the deadline is soon. :)

Hi Star77,

It's been stressful. I just walked my transcripts over about 20 minutes ago and saw the lady at the front filing the MASSIVE mountain of envelopes. It's been a while since I last saw you post, how have you been?

Hi there--I just finally registered and can post. My application is in as of a few days ago...now we begin the long wait until December. I'm glad to be in touch here with other folks who are applying.

hi everyone, i've been lurking for months now but i finally "locked" my app sunday night and now i want to talk to other applicants. i am so nervous i can't even contain myself. getting into ucsf is the only thing i think about, it's a disorder at this point. i have a question for current and past applicants.

i read previously on the thread that the personal statement is supposed to be about a paragraph long. i totally misinterpreted that and wrote like 5 paragraphs!!! since i already locked my app i totally freaked out (naturally) and called admissions, but they aren't taking any phone calls till thursday. i don't want them to think i'm trying to cheat by writing a whole other essay. so my question is, i guess, does anyone have any advice? will they look down upon my misinterpretation, do you think it will hurt me? also, when i finally do get a hold of them do you think they'll let me modify it?

sorry for the long post, but i am losing my mind. thanks all! i hope we get to see each other at interviews!

hi southbay!

are you in california southbay? i'm in santa cruz, nice to "meet" you. are you as antsy as i am?

Hello Nervous Applicants,

I will be going home from work and locking my application tonight. Talk about last minute........

I also talked to someone at the nursing office and told me that the personal statement is supposed to be about a paragraph long, but I too, wrote 5 paragraphs because there was a lot of information they were asking for!

I hope it will NOT affect our application because there was no word limit anywhere in the instructions..........

that's exactly what i was thinking! without giving a word limit they have to expect a few long responses. i just hope they don't look unfavorably on it. glad to know i wasn't the only one.

I'm more in the San Jose area. Nice to 'meet' you all, too! I think I wrote three paragraphs for that--you're right, they were asking for a lot of information. My guess is that if it took five paragraphs to say what you needed to say, that's fine--my guess (and hope) is that they are much more interested in content than length...
