What are the better hospitals to work in? What is the average pay? Is it better to be in a union or not? I live in TX, so this will be a big change for us. Thanks for any help.
ETA: I work in a Medical ICU in a large well known hospital. If that makes a difference in what hospital would work best for me.

Hello Mustang
welcome to Bakersfield!I hope you will love it.
The hospital you will probably love is KMC
I am biased i really love Kern Medical Center, the Nurses and Physicians are Great and you will learn a lot. Most of the patients are low income which for me is such an honor working and assisting people who need the most help.As compared to Texas the starting for New Grads in Bakersfield is $29, probably with your experience u should be looking at 32-35/hour. the cost of living in Bakersfield is low , so u are making Good money. Plus California is Union state and the Nursing Union is strong as compared to Texas which is a Right to work state.

I lived in Bakersfield for two years before moving to Texas. It reminds me of parts of Central Texas: extremely hot in the summer, not very glamorous, and quite a few people who speak with Southern drawls (many people in Bako are descendents from the 1930s Dust Bowl migrants who came from Texas, Arkansas and Oklahoma).
Anyhow, the hospitals in Bako include Bakersfield Memorial, Mercy Southwest, Kern Medical Center, Bakersfield Heart Hospital, San Joaquin Community Hospital, Healthsouth Rehab Hospital, and probably one other I have not mentioned. The Kaiser Health System is unionized, but they only operate clinics in Bako (no hospitals).
No Southern accent here! I'm not originally from Texas.

It's going to depend on your specialty on where you would like to go. There are spots everywhere but there are pros and cons to each facility.
