Possible interview questions?

Specialties Case Management

Published

Hi all! I recently applied to an RN case manager-Population health position for a local medical clinic that has a few branches in our county. I got a callback today for an interview next week and I am both nervous and excited! I have been working in Med-Surge for about 2 years now and worked in the SNF for almost a year prior to that. I have a general idea of what case managers do as I work with them at the hospital but I am nervous as to what questions they can possibly ask. It is an office based job and I will work with the utilization management team if hired. If anyone has any ideas to possible questions they encountered in their interviews I'd appreciate it very much! And what questions should I ask them? Thanks!

Thanks for the advice TAKOO01! I actually got in touch with a friend who works in the case management office at my hospital and she says that the job would most likely be for a night case manager. I work nights right now but the wife wants me to go days for my next job ? Won't hurt to go into the interview though and possibly get an offer if the clinic doesn't give me the job.

Good luck. I just got two email Friday for 2 interviews one w/ Corvel and Genex. Let me know how it goes.

Hi Blueeyesrn,

Do you know if companies like Corvel and Genex are unionized?

Just an update. Got another call from the clinic 2 days ago saying that they were doing telephone checks on my references but one of them hasn't reached back to them yet and it was the only thing holding up the process. Before reaching out to the reference, I spoke again with the vice president of the UM department over the phone and asked a few questions that I forgot to ask during the interview. If I got the job, the orientation period they are willing to give me is 1 week. Within that week, the first day is a general orientation of the facility, the second day is a charting orientation, and on the third day I take a small case on my own and I supposedly have someone to guide me but he/she will also have their own cases. By the second week, I will take on a full load by myself. They weren't willing to give anything else. I didn't feel comfortable with this so I withdrew my application. On a side note, I just came out of an interview today with the hospital I am currently working at. The interview went well, the only bad thing they said is that they are pretty short of CM's right now and they are currently looking for experienced CM's to fill the gaps. They will be posting more CM positions within the next few weeks, and if they do decide to bring me on board they are willing to give me a 30-day orientation. At this point, I am willing to wait in order to get the job and a better orientation than the other place. Will hopefully get the good news by the end of next week ?

I know it's been a while since I posted on here, but I wanted to give some closure to this thread. Almost a month has passed since I interviewed with my hospital for a CM position and I left a voice mail last week asking for an update. I ended up hearing back from HR two days ago and they said they are willing to take me on board and the reason it took so long was due to the budget approval. Apparently, she didn't want to give me false hopes so she waited until everything was approved, fair enough. The downside is that the position they are offering me is a part-time, weekends position on day shift. The upside is that the rate they are offering me is $16 more than what I am currently making and they are still going to fully train me before I go part-time. I asked them to let me think about it over the weekend before I make a decision. After speaking with a close friend that works in the CM office, I decided I will call them on Monday and take the plunge. Thanks to everyone for the advice on this thread!
