is it possible to defer a job acceptance?

I am going to graduate in July and have started submitting my application to different hospitals. My problem is that many of the hospitals do not want to interview me until May when they find out their open positions for August.

Two hospitals want to interview me next week but they are also my last choices. I know I'm kind of jumping the gun here a little bit, but if I get a job offer from them, how long do I have to make a decision? I would also hate to turn down a job offer and end up with nothing.

Any advice would be appreciated! Thanks.

It's entirely up to the potential employer how long they are willing to wait for you to decide. Typically, they want to hear something definite from you pretty quickly after they make an offer (as in days, not weeks).
