My greatest fear associated with TPAPN has been realized. I just found out my last uds was reported as "positive" for alcohol. I don't know if its just for a miniscule amount or not. I have requested a review of this but not sure what that entails. Has anyone else received a false positive and was the issue resolved fairly?

Not me. If you don't mind me asking, how were you notified? Did the CM call, or were the results on RT?
The results were posted on Recovery Trek. I always check after being selected for testing just to make sure nothing weird is going on. I had to keep going back and rechecking because I couldn't believe it when I saw that positive test result.

Wow. So sorry you are going through this. I havent had a positive test, but would contact my casemanager asap. I dont know your relationship with your casemanager so I cant advise you on that. I would call recovery Trek and speak with MRO. He may give you insight on timeframe etc. good luck, prayin for you. Plz keep us posted.

I have had multiple positive tests for etg ( 120-1500) The cut off level is now 500 in florida. I was sent to 2 extra rehabs because positive etg. I now have to have additional (experimental testing) PEth.
At least now most states are aware that people can have high levels without drinking. When I had my first positive, they had never heard of false positive (2006)
If you didn't drink then hold your ground. I never found out what causes me to test positive. I had some of my highest levels, eating bread and water. I just told them I am sober and would be willing to do any test or evaluation to prove my sobriety.
Most nurses never have a positive. If it is urine alcohol, etg can help rule out fermentation of alcohol from high glucose in urine.
Are you diabetic?

No, I am not a diabetic. I have been eating a lot of Asian food, wondering if there might be some fermented ingredient not listed on the menu. I am having the result reviewed.

I know Korean food uses fermented bean pastes in some sauces and soups, and of course kimchee is traditionally fermented. Good luck with challenging the result.

Soy sauce and rice wine vinegars can also cause false positives.

I would definitely get a retest of your sample. That's what split screens are for. I came up positive for alcohol on one of my Recovery Trek tests when I had not had anything to drink. I passed the re-test of the other vial. I got no apology from TPAPN for that despite the person that called me to alert me to the result being very nasty and condescending. She said that false positives never happen and that I needed to stop lying....etc. I'll have my fingers crossed for you. If you gave a split screen sample you have options.

Not a BON issue, but I tested positive for PCP (angel dust) with my pain management physician. After several "why don't you just admit it..." conversations, I insisted on a more comprehensive test. Turns out, Benadryl tests positive as PCP on the cheap test, but is identified accurately on the pricy test. As to your situation, if you are sure you were alcohol free when you had the test, if you get any flack for it the only tack you can take is "we need to get to the bottom of this false positive before it effects some ones reputation in the program". My attitude was one of being incredulous and dumbfounded, with just a touch of self-righteous indignation. The problem may not be a problem at all- if this is a common false positive it may be that they ignore any positive below a certain level, or give a pass on the 1st positive due to false positives. I would discuss what may have lead to the false positive with whoever is in charge of your situation, but the end result is stick to the truth and the truth shall set you free.
Thanks for all the support and advice. I had it retested and the specimen still resulted positive. I am sure my case manager thinks I am lying. This is very demoralizing because I feel so helpless. I have been unemployed since last May when I self reported and voluntarily completed an outpatient rehab program. No one seems to want to hire a TPAPN nurse, anyway.
Wow, I feel overwheming sadness for you. I am praying for you.
