positive drug test

I was required to take a 10 panel drug screen. I went to my Dr office and my MA clearly didn't know what she was doing Bc she didn't know which test to perform and kept pacing back and forth. She said she'll run it all Bc she can't find the one that is only 10 so I guess I got tested for all the drugs.I went back today and she said one came back positive I'm like *** I was in shock Bc I don't and never have done drugs. She said it was presumptive positive for Caffeine. Would that matter at all?!! I know it's just caffeine but knowing there's a positive on my drug screen worries me it'll kick me out of the program!!!

I have no idea why it would check for caffeine, but last I checked caffeine was legal. (Thank goodness!)

Maybe someone else can give some insight as to why that would even be checked!

That's odd. I've never heard of being drug tested for caffeine. Since it's a legal drug, I doubt you have anything to worry about. If you're concerned, ask for a repeat test on only the 10 things you're supposed to be screened for.

i have never heard of someone testing positive for caffeine on a drug test. when you submit your results it does show which drug you are positive and negative for. if anything the program will question why you got a full panel drug test instead of a 10 panel. as far as getting kicked out of the program, you have nothing to worry about. i'd also see a different physician as well if they are unable to perform a simple drug test then the staff is clearly undereducated.

I wouldn't worry. It's caffeine. Yes, caffeine is a drug (stimulant) but a very legal and necessary drug! ;)

The only place I've ever run a caffeine "drug" test was as a tech at a clinical research facility and it was protocol specific due to a known interaction with the test drug. Had to be certain the potential study participants were truthful in their caffeine use.

That said it sounds like a tech error. You will likely be fine. And why is a ECG telling you the results? That should be left to the physical or nurse designee so that the results can accurately be interpreted.

Oh my, we would all fail that one!! I would say you have nothing to worry about. Although it doesn't help that now you feel like you have some explaining to do.

The only time I have ever seen caffeine run is for NCAA testing. Unless you are also a collegiate athlete, you are ok ;)

Wonder how many tests she checked off...and who will be footing the bill for it!

I'm wondering if they have started using caffeine test for kids and teens? Lately a lot of kids and teens have been having heart attacks and other health issues from energy drinks. Hmm, I have to look into that.

C'mon seriously?

Caffeine?! You have got to be kidding me. I think I'd straight up submit that to your school so they can have a good laugh.
