Portland area hospitals??

Published

Dh is thinking of trying for a travel assignment in Portland or the suburbs. Is there any great hospitals there for ICU or ER nurses? He's got a wild hair before we completely commit to moving back to Chicago... :p Would love to hear any input on hospitals that are good to work at, pay wise, etc...

I have a good friend who works at OHSU in Portland. She floats between ER, NICU, PP, mother/baby. The hospital is unionized. She makes more that twice the hourly pay that I do, and she loves it there.

Oregon Health Sciences University (OHSU) & Emmanual (a Legacy Health Systems facility) both have good ERs that get a lot of the hairy stuff.

When it comes to "general" ER they are all pretty interchangable.

The main operators (mult. hospitals) in the area are:

Legacy Health Sytems www.legacyhealth.org and

Provedence http://www.providence.org/home/default.htm

Then again, if you are going to be in the area and have a WA licence there is SW WA Medical Center in Vancouver http://www.swmedicalcenter.com/ (good cost of living, no state income tax and right across the river from Portland)

Thanks for the input! I'll check them out. DH is ALL about union, that's for sure!!
