Pornography in schools. Is this "grooming" our children as some angry parents believe?

The use of such rhetoric, opponents of the new laws argue, underscores a nationwide push by conservatives to make education a political wedge issue by equating certain teaching materials and educators with Mediaography and even pedophilia. This latest trend is another volley in the country’s ongoing culture wars, during which conservative lawmakers also have opposed the teaching of “critical race theory” and proposed bills requiring schools to post all course materials online so parents can review them.

I think this is just another example of conservative Americans getting agitated by right wing rhetoric and propaganda.

Here's a video compilation and represention of how emotional and aggressive these agitated people are.

Here is a list of books under fire from conservatives. Does anyone know of any other compilation of those titles?

By the way @chare your link led me to a statement... not advice.

The post in question was a comment you made to another member:

If this link doesn't work, the post in question was the 7th post in this thread.

ETA: The links in the last sentence are correct.  The link for the imbedded post take me to the last post in the thread.

ETA: My apologies, the embedded link actually takes me to a variety of posts within the thread.

I think taking a stand and having a world view, and giving your opinion about such things is not necessarily bias, and if it is then it shouldn't be hurled out as an insult.

I think it becomes a problem when someone is so blinded by it they can't see another point of view that might prove them false.

To me during the Trump years seems to be when I've noticed it more as people dug their heels in real deep, especially during covid.

I'm not sure the video was "heavily edited".  It focused on mostly two speakers and didn't seem to have a lot of editing while the two of them spoke.  Obviously it was designed to show just one view and only included a few snippets of a couple of people that said they were not anti-LBGT.

I do think the video title "Book banning parents lose it after being exposed" is a bit dramatic and not true.  I think the main speaker they focused on for most of the video starting with "let's face it, you hate gay people" is a bit too combative.

The latter video is the one I was referring to.  I must have missed the video you refer to in the first paragraph.  If I find it I will watch it.

As I was reared in south Texas, the adage that one should heed one's own advice didn't necessarily refer to actual advice that was offered.  Rather, it meant that they should pay attention to what they tell others and act appropriately.

My apologies, as you are such a stickler for words and their meaning, I will try to be more grammatically precise in future posts.

oh sorry.  I'm talking about the vid in the original post so finding it is not an issue.

You get to interpret our interactions here as you prefer.

I come to conclusions the same way other thinkers come to conclusions.

No, you aren't obligated to answer questions or back up claims... you do you... I'm accustomed to conservative members here asking more questions than they are willing to answer with any specificity.

Yada yada... you have no examples just opinions...

You are awfully triggered by passing mention of Trump's lies and how they inspire (conservative) people to do ugly things. Unfortunately for you, Trump is a portion of American culture and conservative politics just now... his brand of dishonesty and corruption will continue to be mentioned in light of conservative public behavior and unfounded beliefs.

You seem troubled that I'm pointing out that it's conservatives who are angry and agitated in public meetings about books in schools.  If you'd like to talk about innapropriate and angry public from liberals you will need to provide a reference... something beyond your feelings that there must be some kind of balance in that level of grievance.

Maybe you aren't aware that a citation is basically a quotation.

You're right. Liberals never get angry or inappropriate.  I thought I would create a big ol' conservative conspiracy theory lie.

"I'm accustomed to conservative members here asking more questions than they are willing to answer with any specificity.  "

Yes conservatives also like asking questions without any specificity. Could you provide a fact and/or citation for this claim?

I would retort by saying that I'm accustomed to liberals and their dual standards and hypocrisy. However I won't because that's dumb.

What you are celling bias , I am calling factual citations.  I'm asking you, not him.  A fact is a fact so he has nothing really to do with this debate.

What?

This made me snicker because you said it and then it would be dumb to bring up.

Liberal hypocrisy is often brought up here when appropriate.  I don't find it dumb although most often I'll dispute it.

What I do find annoying and being new you might not know it because I try to control it, is when someone changes the subject.  When someone says "the liberal hypocrisy about such and such...." and the answer is "well what about conservative hypocrisy about...." or "....but Trump....".

So yes actually for you to retort with something off topic like liberal hypocrisy would be annoying (dumb?)

Yes, I see your point. Difference being, I  was using it as an example I wasn't actually saying that. None the less I did say it so it is funny!

No one claimed that liberals don't get loud or angry or inappropriate.  If you would like to share an instance here we could talk about it.

"Dual standards and hypocrisy"...

That's quite a statement to make without providing a shred of evidence to support your opinion. Yes, it did seem dumb, and somewhat childish, to react that way. Are you too agitated about this topic to have an actual discussion about what you find concerning about any of the specific books or the adjacent discussions that they might precipitate?

You are directing me to consider my previous statement. I do not see any advice for me to apply to myself. Your original link brought me to the quoted statement.
