Does anyone know the best and cheapest way to go about getting a living will and POA?
My grandma needs these things, but doesn't really have the money for an attorney, with me in school without a job, I really don't have it either. I've looked online at some sites and so many of them want me to pay before I see a copy of what it says exactly. She wants to be a DNR, but as far as IV fluids go, she wants to leave that up to us to decide on whatever the circumstances are. The ones we had at my last job were kind of generic, and I would like a little more specifics, Any help is appreciated. TIA

I had my parents' Living Wills and Durable Power of Attorney for Health Care completed at the local hospital by the Social Worker free of charge. I am not sure that you can get a POA without an attorney, but you could contact your local court house and ask at the circuit clerk's office. Some states have Advocacy Groups, for people who are unable to pay for legal assistance....it might not hurt to check that out either. Hope this helps...good luck to you.

You might want to also check with the local Office Stores like Home Depot and Office Max type of places. They usually have legal paperwork available for a small fee (like $10). Do also check with an attorney (there must be some sort of legal aide based on a sliding scale in your area) and see if a simple Notorized Signature is all you need on the paperwork. I would make certain all family members were aware of it and have it witnessed by someone else who is significant in the family.
I hope the hospital can help you too.
Thanks, maybe I will check at our local hospital. As far as the POA, I think, and I could be wrong, but as long as I have it notarized, then I can do it without an attorney. That is the way it was explained to me at work, and where I used to work has a notary republic and she said she will notarize it for me if Grandma and I come in. But as I said, maybe I could have gotten wrong information
Thanks, I will look at staples this weekend.

Same here, I got Mom's done at the hosp w/ the social worker, even had it notarized there. Dept. of trans. has a power of atty for any vehicles that they'll send you if you ask, but I don't know about any other POA paperwork. Good luck, and let us know what you find!
