PNP working in nursery?

Hi all -

New grad PNP here. I finished my program in fall 2020 and have been job searching since. My certification is PNP-AC.

I am limited in terms of location because my husband is a grad student. We're in north/central Indiana and, after job searching locally without success, I applied to jobs in Chicago. I'm waiting to hear back. Chicago is ~2 hours away so, if I got a position out there, we'd have to relocate... and/or one of us would do a less-than-ideal commute.

Meanwhile, a recruiter at a local hospital in Michigan reached out to see if I'd be interested in applying for an open APP position in their nursery. It would be great to not have to move/commute. However, I do have some concerns. My program director had advised against working in a NICU (for obvious reasons - this is not my training/certification). However, can PNPs work in the nursery, since it's well-baby/lower acuity? I'm also nervous about starting out in the nursery - will this pigeonhole me/limit my future practice?

Any thoughts would be much appreciated!

I can't speak to how working in nursery would pigeonhole you in the future, since I'm not a PNP, but they definitely CAN work in well baby nursery.  I've worked or done clinicals at several hospitals where this was the case.
