PLU ELMSN 2016

Published

Greetings!

I recently came across a very helpful thread on allnurses regarding last year's applications to the ELMSN program and thought I would try to get some dialogue going for those applying for the program starting in June 2016.

I took the GRE earlier this week and am wrapping up my applications (PLU, Seattle U, etc) now. I would be happy to answer any questions about my experiences throughout the application process, but mostly I thought this would be a great space to encourage and motivate one another!

I'm a non-traditional student and former finance professional making one of the most exciting transitions into healthcare. I'm also a current PLU student so I'm familiar with the campus, which is beautiful by the way (if some of you aren't and were curious).

If you have questions, ask away. If you have answers, we'd love to hear them. Or, if you just want to pop in and introduce yourself, we'd love that too!

Good luck everyone!

Applications for ELMSN for Summer 2016 just went live on the PLU Website: How To Apply | Master of Science in Nursing | Pacific Lutheran University

Also - the information sessions for Fall semester were just posted as well: Upcoming Information Sessions | Master of Science in Nursing | Pacific Lutheran University

I'll be applying next year to the ELMSN program. I'm also a PLU graduate (2013) and will be completing the rest of my prereqs the next three quarters at TCC. Good luck!

Hello! I am not applying until next year, but would you mind sharing your stats for gpa? I'm trying to gauge whether or not it is a program I should think of applying to.

My undergrad GPA is 3.09. Though not stellar, I'm confident in the rest of my application. What about yourself?

My GPA is ~3.5 - 3.6, but don't let your academics discourage you from applying. I have learned through research and the learning seminars admission is a very holistic process. Our GPA, GRE scores, personal statements, and letters of recommendation are all important factors in evaluating applicants. If you fall within the average GRE scores, wrote a good letter, and have good recommendations I think you have every reason to stay optimistic and confident in yourself! If necessary, apply to several programs to increase your chances. GPA may be a small part of the process, but in my humble opinion, they shouldn't define anyone. Good luck going forward with whatever it is you decide!

Hello! The GPAs of admitted students have ranged everywhere from 3.0 - 4.0. The average GPA of admitted students from 2014 was 3.4 - 3.6. the average GPA for pre-req classes was 3.5 - 4.0. They look at every application holistically (they are nurses, so of course!). However, they are strict on the Pre-Req grade requirements (none below a "B") and the overall GPA requirement (applicants should have at least an overall GPA of a 3.0).

Anyone have any idea when we will hear back or how many people applied?

Hello! I believe the final deadline for applications is January 15th and imagine they will be reviewed in the weeks following. I'm expecting decisions to come as early as February, and hope no later than April. This is, of course, purely speculation based on information shared from previously admitted applicants. Here's to hoping we all get some good news in the coming months. Good luck to you!

Thanks for sharing- good luck to you also!

Hello!

I also applied to this cycle and looking at past years' posts, we might get lucky and hear as early as the end of this month! :D

I noticed that this cycle, allnurses doesn't have as many posts about PLU's ELMSN program. Maybe less applicants? Does anyone know how many people applied this year?

Also, what field is everyone coming from? What other schools did you apply to?

Hello everyone - I am a current student in the PLU ELMSN program and I would be MORE than happy to answer any questions you have regarding the program. I understand how stressful the application and waiting process is and would love to help ease your mind.

If you want my stats.

I had a 3.7 GPA in my undergrad.

I had a 4.0 in the prereqs.

I had CNA and hospital experience.

I had international volunteer experience.

And I volunteered at a couple places in WA.

I did not do well on the GRE. I got like a 150 and a 151? Like 50th percentile it was awful, haha.

But honestly, the GPAs and what not range quite a bit in my cohort.

I know you've heard it a million times before but what really matters is your essay!

This program is SO hard, but SO worth it. I can't believe that by the end of this year I will probably be starting my first nursing job!

Also, if FNP or PMHNP is what you're after and you're trying to get into Seattle U, etc. PLU has made it so their ELMSN can seamlessly transition into the DNP program. So, it's really quite perfect honestly.

I came from a large school and appreciate having a real relationship with the faculty.

Throughout the program you also have the opportunity to join service clubs and participate in fellowships. It's a great program. Intense, but great!
