last night we were at a party. some guys brought fireworks and were shooting them off. one of the guys who had too much to drink said "hey lets shoot one @ "jack" (not his real name). everyone said no not a good idea. he did. the bottle rocket instead of going in the air was aimed @ "jack" . it flew lit right in his eye. i went down there with clean damp paper towels to apply pressure to stop the bleeding.
our dear friend "jack" is now waiting for sugery and will lose his eye.
was what i did the right thing? my immediate thought was to stop the bleeding. there was lots of blood spurting everwhere. i feel horrible about what happened.

You did what you could in the circumstances. There's not a lot else you could have done.I hate fireworks!!I never had them when my kids were small because I also know someone who lost an eye that way.

This doesn't suprise me.
Alcohol + Fireworks = bad.
I hope your friend is ok. And I hope whoever did this to him faces consequences (ie, charges against him).

I think your instincts were spot on; you did all you could do in a very difficult, tragic situation.
I hope the dude who thought this was a good idea thinks differently now.
And best wishes to Jack.

You did the right thing. My eldest son got shot in the eye with a paint ball Spring Break of his 8th grade year. It took months and months of Dr visits (3x a week for months) 6 mos later he was finally able to have surgery. Surgery was a complete success and today almost 4 years later he still has 20/20 vision and you would never know. He had an impact injury, not a punture.
Interesting side note the kid has had 3Ct scans since then (Ok he is a dare devil) every time he gets an injury and they look at his eyes and the damaged one does not react like the healthy one, so they assume head injury. Doesnt matter that I tell them, off to the scanner he goes.
I swear males of any kind get dumber in numbers. I have said it about teenagers but I think age does not matter.
You get 1 boy 1 brain and a pretty smart kid. Add in another boy and they now share that brain, half as smart, add in a 3rd boy, share that same brain, 1/3 as smart, more than 4 boys in one area and they are all basically mentally challanged. Add alcohol and or girls to the equation and watch out!!!

I enjoyed reading that! :)
Although I agree with you -- I must say I am an exception to that rule. I am very level headed and absolutely will not take any physical risks in life. I've seen the results of people (specifically - males) who do stupid things and either end up dead or physically handicapped.

yep....alcohol and flame...not a pretty combo.
Take 1 brain/# of males in group....= how much of a brain they are using.....At least Jack is still alive, I know of 2 people who weren't so lucky....My thoughts and prayers with you and him...

I have always had a phobia for fireworks since I was young. I don't know where it came from, but I get very disturbed when I hear them. Even without the phobia, I believe they are very dangerous, and harmful. I am sorry to hear about your friend, and hope he can still live a productive life and somehow begin thinking positively again after such a tragedy.
