This is what I came up with.
Finished BIOCHEM last semester, I think this is it:
2,7-dimethyl-4,6,6-triethyl nonane
This is what I came up with.Finished BIOCHEM last semester, I think this is it:2,7-dimethyl-4,6,6-triethyl nonane
where did the 2,7 dimethyl come from?
I have 4,4-dimethyl but I dont know how to figure out the rest
start at the right (the longest chain down on right)
start counting from the bottom ch3 (as #1) then go up to ch (#2) has ch3 attached
#1 = ch3
#2 = ch has ch3 (methyl)
#3 = ch2
#4 = ch has ch2-ch3 (ethyl)
#5 = ch2
#6 = c (that has ch2-ch3 going up and down)
#7 = ch has ch3
#8 = ch2
#9 = ch3
therefore 2&7 are di(meaning 2) methyl
4,6,6 tri (three of them) ethyl
and
nonane because there are 9 in the chain.
The reason you would start from the bottom and not from the top is because you want to have the lowest # with the first chain from it.
On the Top the first # with a chain would be 3
On the Bottom the first # would be 2
thank you!!! I so understand it now. Thanks for replying everyone
