Hello all,
I was hoping to get some advice. I know a Philipino RN that works with me here in the US, she is trying to go home (for good), only thing is that she has had a child while she has been here (4years) the child is a US citizen, and now she is worried that her child will not be able to stay with them once they get back home. She received a letter that stated something to the tune of the baby having to visit the US once a year ...Im not sure why? To maintain citizenship maybe?
Anywho, she is concerned about someone coming to take the baby away once shes home (told her that they couldnt do that) and she is also planning on getting a lawyer to apply for citizenship in the Phillippines. Any advice I can give her??? Or websites where can print off some info would be appreciated! Thanks
sorry for anymispellings!!!!

I am under the impression that she is now an american citizen. If so, then she can re acquire her filipino citizenship. She will have to submit an application that she wants to re acquire it. She will have a dual citizenship and that also applies for her child. She will just have to apply her child to become a filipino citizen. Can she not clarify the immigration office of why she has to bring her child back to US every year? Can she not bring her child like once every five years back to US? Good point also to get a lawyer to clarify things.
Hope this would be of help.

your friend need to speak with the us immigration. maybe she need to apply for dual citizenship. she can contact the philippine immigration also for that matter. i am sure they can give her answers. i don't think that they can take her baby because she is still the parent of that child.

Has your RN friend taken US citizenship? may be something to think about before she moves back to the Phillipines incase she decides to, return would be easier. If her child is a US citizen then there isn't any reason that I can think of that she needs to return annually for the child many US citizen children live abroad and don't have to return to maintain citizenship. I am not sure about obtaining Phillipine citizenship.
