Hi! I am looking to start travel nursing and am interest in the California area specifically San Diego. I was wondering what people's experiences have been as a travel nurse in California in the PICU. I have heard mixed things and even that in San Diego PICU nurses are not very kind and accepting of travel nurses.

That's painting all California PICU nurses with a very broad brush! Even if true (cultures vary widely at hospitals), won't being in San Diego make up for it?
While I'm not a pediatric nurse, my own personal experience with pediatric critical care providers (not just nurses) is that they tend to be overprotective. A new person has to prove themselves competent and trustworthy. I suspect this (also broad) generalization is true everywhere, not just San Diego.
But you want your first experience to be positive. Poll your recruiters (not just one) and make sure it will be friendly to a first time traveler. Even if it is not in San Diego, you have time to get there after your first three months.
