P-What is you Population?
I-What is one Intervention that you think you would like to give your population?
C-What intervention do you want to Compare with the first one?
O-When you looked at the article, what Outcomes occurred with the intervention you chose?
I was reading a bit on this site and saw that one of the recommendations were to choose a topic I am highly interested in and form my PICO question based off of some of the research I was able to find.
I was researching in CINAHL and found a ton of articles within my area of interest, but they are just so deep, I think I may have picked a rather intense area of interest.
My area of interest is Obstetrics. What about obstetrics interest me? Both the Development of the Fetus (Fetal Development) and the Process of Delivery.
With that information, what type of PICO question can I formulate?
Can any of you give me some ideas along my area of interest? Or did I pick a rather difficult area?
Thank You so much!

You can check out the Cochrane Database which has reviews listed by topic of evidence-based practice. Also the Joanna Briggs Institute website. If you pick a topic, you can easily make the PICO question out of it.
As an example, I am currently doing a PICO paper on using chlorhexine mouthwash to reduce ventilator-associated pneumonia in intubated ICU patients:
P - Mechanically ventilated adults (>18yo) in surgical ICUs
I - Chlorhexidine gluconate mouthwash
C - 'Usual' oral care
O - Reduction in the incidence rate of ventilator-associated pneumonia (VAP)
The way I phrased the question:
"Does the use of chlorhexidine gluconate mouthwash reduce the incidence of VAP compared to usual oral care in mechanically ventilated adults in intensive care units?"
Hope that helps - if you choose a topic and come back, I'll be happy to help with the PICO question.

Thank you SO MUCH! First, my area of interest is Obstetrics. What about obstetrics interest me? Both the Development of the Fetus (Fetal Development) and the Process of Delivery.
Do you have any ideas of how I can formulate a PICO question related to my area of interest?
Second: DO you have the websites for Cochrane Database and Joanna Briggs Institute website?
Thanks so much.
You have to narrow your topic to a specific research question - I can't help with that because I know nothing about obstetrics. Think:
"Does xxxxxx have xxxxx effect compared to xxxxxx in xxxxx patients"
Um.. let me think... "Does perineal massage reduce the rate of episiotomy compared to no perineal massage in first time mothers?"
You can google the websites. I could do it for you, but I can't be bothered!

Thank you. That actually is a good question AND it relates to the Process of Delivery.
Good luck on your PICO paper and thank you for everything! How far in the nursing program are you? When do you graduate?
You're welcome. I am in grad school for my NP now.
