PHP med administration?

by anonanon anonanon (New) New

I need some advice from anyone working in a PHP, IOP, or OP setting. Do nurses administer meds during program hours? Or are patients responsible for their own medications? Would YOU administer meds in one of these settings?

When I worked in a PHP, we only gave maintenance IMs (e.g., Haldol Dec, Relprevv) and comfort medications (e.g., Tylenol, Motrin). Patients were encouraged to bring their own medications to take if they needed them. Very very rarely would a MD order a med such as Ativan, Seroquel etc., and if they did, it would be a one-time dose.

My clients who attended PHP frequently had medication administration by a visiting nurse at their homes. Meds were stored in a safe and only the nurses had the key or combination.
