Phlebotomist or Dialysis Technician

Published

I'm currently a nursing student and a state tested nurse aide. I have 3 more years before I have my R.N. I would like to get either my phlebtomy or dialysis tech certificate to make some more money to help me through school an support my family. Which one would be the better route to go? I live in the dayton, ohio region, would my chances of getting a job be good with one or the other?

Specializes in ER.

Phlebotomist is cheaper in the long run in my area and there are slightly more openings for it in my area than dialysis tech. However, I think dialysis techs make slightly more than a phlebotomist does. Neither job pays a lot though. In Ohio, you technically don't have to be certified to work as a phlebotomist. You just need to be trained to be one. I was never certified but I was trained to draw blood in the ER by being sent to the lab for one day.
