PHES RN refresher course- do it!

Published

I needed to do an RN refresher course. I have some disability issues that made it a challenge to find someone who could accommodate my disability.

Plus, I am not in Houston!

Not to worry! PHES went the extra mile...several miles, in fact..

PHES was able to let me do what I could through correspondence, then found a great place to do my clinicals where I live! (I must give that place a big 'Thank You', also!).

PHES did everything to make the course as easy for me as possible.

If you are looking for a company that can help you with the 'out of the ordinary', PHES is the place to use!

I am currently taking the PHES nurse refresher course as required by the Texas Board of Nursing (BON) to re-activate my license. I found the staff from front desk to instructor to be compassionate and knowledgeable. They understand that we need to work but we want to be safe. My local community college offered a nurse refresher course, but the program would be all online and take months to complete. Also the community college course operated on a traditional school semester system. When I called the community college system I was told that they would have difficulty finding preceptors particularly for LVNs. In contrast, PHES already has preceptors for LVNs and RNs. PHES really wants you to find work and I like that. I thought I would be board sitting all day but the true stories I hear make me feel like I worked on the job. For those who are out of town there are affordable hotels in the metro area. When you need to de-stress just go about an hour to the Gulf of Mexico beach or go west to Brazos Bend Sate Park to see some alligators. I made new acquaintences at the refresher course and learned a lot more than what would have been in a book. I was a good nurse before I let my license expire and lapse. I will be a more competent nurse because of PHES. Everyday I feel stronger as a nurse. I wanted 2 years before enrolling in PHES. Just think. If I had completed PHES 2 years ago I would be licensed now.

I'm at PHES and I am actually learning alot. I just got done with pharmacology and it was more beneficial than what I thought it would be. They really care about the fact that you are trying to get comfortable again and respect too that the fear of making an error is what keeps you from being to cocky. My class is big and I think they are starting to get alot of diversity too. Alot of nurses are feeling comfortable with embracing this experience to grow and it really is refreshing. No pun intended (refresher coursework).
